It`s that time of year again, time for my annual "Design The Anniversary Knife." This year marks the end of my 4th year as a full time knifemaker, and I`m gratefull for all of you who have made this possible. The contest will be a little bit different this year, so here are the rules.

1) Only 1 design per person, so think carefully before you submit your design!
2) I`m limiting the size to a maximum of 10" overall, 1 1/2" tall, and 1/8" thick. (if you prefer 3/16" think, I will have to charge you $15 if you win)
3) There will not be a sheath included this year (money is tight!)
4) The winner will be requires to send me a full scale cardboard cutout of the design.

This contest starts on April 13th (Friday The 13th!), and will end on May 4th. After that, the knives will be posted for voting, and the winner will be decided by the members of Bladeforums. In case of a tie, there will be another round of voting.

As usual, the winner will get his knife design (with any standard handle material) for free!

Awesome, here's to many more years of great knives, cheers!

I can't wait to see which one of you designs the next knife that keeps me up at night, :), are the designs to be posted in this thread?

Place holder!

Here's my entry: "Rider"

OA: 6 in
blade: 2.5
handle: 2\3.5
height: 3/4

Don't think I'm going to get the chance to do a better drawing/picture before the deadline I'm afraid. With all the good entry's here I doubt it'd matter, :), anywho wanted to explain hat the 2 "k"s on the blade are so that one shows in the finger grove when the knife is closed.

Sometimes I like to carry a smaller pocket friend so though scaling to 3/4 would be cool. I've tried to keep the semi-wharncliff style because it's a great all rounder and I think the curves on the handle to complement it would help it ride in a pocket and stay out the way until you needed it - a ride along, ;)

So that's for the chance John, and here's to another 4 years of great quality knives! :D

So I guess the XXXL Kephart/Hudson Bay/Lobo hybrid is out of the question eh.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Sweet! i guess i submitted my custom order a bit too early! :D

think, think, think (say it like Winnie the Pooh).

thanks for the contest John. And congrats on the 4 year anniversary.

Oh yeah, congrats on the anniversary John & thanks for the chance, now I got smoke comin' outta my ears I'm thinking so hard.

Very cool contest sir.
I know I don't post here very much, but I really enjoy your craftsmanship.
There is a design or two floating around in my mind, so if we'll see if I can get one of them on paper.
Thanks.

I can't let one of these pass me by. I need to throw my hat in the ring. Fillet knife anyone? 4 1/2 inch handle similar to the Rule #9s and a 4 1/8 inch blade.

Of course John's hands are much less shaky than mine so all drawing errors will not be on the finished product.:o

Glad to see another Anniversary Contest! Since I have to have surgery when I get back from our next trip home (we fly out the day this contest starts, but we'll be back before it ends) I will have some time to sit and think and sketch, since they won't let me do much else, so I may just have to see what I come up with! Normally, since John doesn't plan on making a sheath for the winning knife, I would offer to make one for the winner, but I can't guarantee that I'd be able to make it in a timely fashion with everything going on right now so I can't, in good conscience, make that offer. Still, I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone's designs and I wish everyone the best of luck!

I'm sitting this one out but hope some of the guys who submitted great designs in the past try again. There were definitely a few I'd like to see made into steel.

Congrats on hitting your 4th year John !

I'll add my entry now as I'm starting a block of long night shifts and don't know if I'll be able to post again before Friday.

Tried to keep it a little less wacky than my designs of the past John, I figured the blade shape would keep the tip plenty strong so it should be a great all round edc !

Thanks for the chance !

Working on something right now!

Never owned one of your knives John, but I will some day. I've heard many great things about them!

Here's a sneak preview ;) Updated design on page 3!

WEll Pitdog, you saved me a wasted entry, I already like yours more than what I was going to submit! Back to the drawing! Exposed tang wold be good for breaking glass etc, and hammering the knife into // through something! Nice. I am possibly leaning toward a more off work hours design that includes a blade to cut limes, and a bottle opener for the Corona. Do you think a bottle opener cut out on the top of the blade would substanially weaken the knife?
Dan

Oh, And Good luck, I like it!
