BK2 or BK7

Ok, so I posted this over on BushcraftUSA, and the General discussion here, but thought I'd ask the experts here, as well.

I'll be receiving a Mora Clipper in a few days and am looking to pair it with something that will handle the larger, more heavy duty work. As I'm staying under $100, I'm quite interested in the BK2 or BK7 to fill this role. I intend to augment with an actual chopper (hatchet/axe/machete, etc) in the future, but would like to have a bigger, heavier blade than the Mora in the meantime. I intend to carry this one on my belt/thigh whenever I go try to get lost in the woods. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks!

bk9 is a great choice. you wouldnt need the hatchet axe or machete for chopping if you got that. it can baton like nobodys buisness and can be used for the small stuff too

BK9..... if you have to pick between the 2 & 7 then I'd go with the BK7.... just wanna watch out for you and recommend the BK9. I baton more than I chop and one thing I really like is having the extra blade length..... everything away from the "sweet spot" stays pretty sharp. The BK7 will be fine but the 2 seems like it's only got an inch or two on the Clipper.

I don't have either, but have been trying to decide between the ESEE 6 and 5, which seem similiar to your BKT choices. I have both and lean toward the 6 as it's lighter, longer, and just seems a great "One Knife" solution. A buddy chose his 5 for this and loves it. Since you're not looking for that "One Knife", I think the above suggestions for the 9 make a lot of sense when paired with your Mora. Good luck.

or if you want something more bushcrafty the bk4 chops well, drills extremely well and is an excellent draw knife

I have Moras, a BK2, and a BK9. For fine work/camp chores I use the Moras more than the BK2 in most cases. I think you will see quite a bit of redundancy there. The thing you would gain with the BK2 is not having to fear anything you want to put your knife into or through. I honestly think you could baton the BK2 through a Mora. haha

The 7 is a great blade but if are wanting an all out chopper that can take anything you can dish out (I am not saying the 7 can't) like everyone is saying, the BK9 is the way to go. It's not the King for nothing. I love mine.

Get you a 9 or a 7 first. Then go back and get you a BK2. That is my be-all-end-all/if I only had one/desert island knife. It will outlive the end of the world.

I prefer the BK-7 to the BK-2 because I like a pointy point on a knife. I find points useful.

I already voted in your thread in the General section, but I still stand by my vote for the 9. You'll note that 9 = 2 + 7. Coincidence? I think not!

After reading and researching obsessively, I just pulled the trigger on the BK7. I wanted something that I could carry on my belt/thigh and the 9 was just too much. So, it should be here by Saturday, just in time for the weather to stop pretending to be Hades and allow me to get out and have a little fun with it. Now I just need some help as far as the sheath is concerned. What kind of mods or ideas for pimping this thing out do you guys have? Thanks!

Good choice. I chose a 7 over a 2 and am having no regrets. Mainly because I can buy a 2 next :)

Between my 2 and my 7, I find that I like my 2 the best.
The 7 is longer and slicyer (is that a word??), but my BK2 is a tank that seems to chop better and can take whatever I can throw at it.
One reason I like the 2 also, its more sheeple friendly. The 7 looks fearsome on the belt!! I got several looks from the uninformed while carrying this beast on my hip. I notice the 2 is more socially acceptable and looks more like a tool than a pig sticker.
Just one of those things I notice while hiking in crowded areas.

I carried my 7 in a dangler sheath made by Eli, and it was not even a bit noticeable. Congrats on the purchase, I'm sure it will serve you well.

FCFER - I honestly don't mind getting looks from those that don't get it. I'd likely not want to bother with them, anyway.

mrn8 - I'm definitely looking into the Godspeed collection. Seems like I could easily double what I spent on the knife, so I'll have to wait a bit on that. In the meantime, I'm sure the stock sheath will be fine.

Yeah, for most its a non-issue, but I work with youth quite a bit and parents get nervous with the youth leader carrying what looks like a Rambo knife on the hip. Most the time I could care less, but trying to get people interested in bushcrafty type stuff, I try to give them less to complain about.

You name it, it's been done! :D

Here is just one example. Blade narrowed, sharp edges rounded, factory micarta scales, point made pointier, and a proprietary desert camo finish in DuraCoat. Another popular mod (not done here) is removing the thumb ramp. And, of course, convexing.

The stock sheath is great by itself, but can be made pretty awesome with a little bit of modding.
