I watched the first season of Game Of Thrones on HBO and I liked it enough to read the books. I find the second season lacking something. If I hadn't read the books,
I don't think that I would have any idea as to what is going on. My wife didn't read the books and she says that it is kind of confusing. We still like it.
Any comments?

I'm reading the 5th book now (About 1000 pages. :eek:) and I understand that Martin is working on a 6th.
 
I haven't read the books, and only started watching it a few weeks ago, but I like it....even though it's still a little confusing to me. I plan on picking up the first season, which I believe is on Bluray already, to catch up(although I do believe I could do the same with HBO on demand).
 
We are loving the thing, but we too were a little confused by the introduction of the "witch" character without any preamble or introduction...
I haven't read the books either. It's quite an undertaking, there are currently what, seven of em?
 
Hopefully the TV deal will put a fire under him and we wont have to wait years for the new book. But I am not holding my breath. It is a good series though, I have just been reading it for over a decade now and Im ready for the story to move on and something significant to happen.
 
The books are AMAZING. More story, more detail, more action, more depth of character than the show (obviously). Don't get me wrong I love the show as well, it was a huge undertaking and I think HBO did a very good job with it, but it can't compare to the books. I think reading the books would certainly add to the experience of watching the show. And I've got a feeling the second season is about to get pretty good... :D
 
I loved the first season but the second one has me a bit bored. I hope it picks up soon.
 
When I started reading the books I was warned not to get too attached to any of the characters. ;)
 
I mainly watch it for Peter Dinklage's superior acting skills and in the hopes the Joffrey takes an arrow to the knee eye and a teeny curiousity about how (if?) the dragons are going to kick butt later on.
 
I have watched the first season before reading any of these books. But after I've read the first one I must admit that Game of Thrones is probably one of the best series based on a novel. At least from my point of view. And now I've ordered a few books more so I won't have to wait too long till season two is availabe in Germany :thumbup:

I think Peter's acting skills a a bit short.....slap, slap......did I really say that? :D

I am tempted to tell you what happens, but I don't want to start an international incident. ;) ;)
 
I was an avid fan of the books since 2000, so much so that when I heard the fourth installment was coming out I reread the first three. Since then I read them all and even picked them all up in signed and unread first editions. So, it's hard for me to gauge the show on its own merits or see it as confusing. Of course the books are "better" but I love the show and think it stands up well on its own and is easily my favorite show on TV. Fourth book was a bit of a let down but I'm not sure what season that will end up being as I heard talk of splitting up one of the books (not sure which) into two seasons. Dinklage is a standout and not at all how my minds eye thought Tyrion should look but he now owns that role. For that matter I think most of the cast has done an outstanding job.

If you think season two has been a little slow then hold onto your hats.
