Gripes

As long as we aren't taking this too seriously, let me say---
We have Amish and Mennonite in this area of Kaintuckee. When I see them riding down the road in their horse drawn buggies, and it's 3 degrees, I think to myself, sure am glad I got a Chevy pickup with a good heater.

Some of you might have to think about that one

On the serious side, Always think safety.

We have never ground together Tim. We have tipped a few together though.

Just think of the great ideas we would have if we did.

Maybe we should start a neo grinding tribe?

BTW My gripe is cutting screws to length!

KIT. What you have said is where Tim and I left off last time. The train took over the horse and buggy. The car took over the train. The plane has taken over the car somewhat.

Progress cannot be stopped. Many men will stand up and fight. But progress always wins as seen in history.

I can see Tim's point. Reverting to a cave man would be great . But its just not for me.

BTW great knives Tim!

Awesome Knives! I very much respect what yall do and I don't know how to explain why the long ago and far away attract me in the here and now. It's definately not for everyone. I wouldn't change what yall do even if I could. Hats off to anyone that looks at life through artistic eyes.

I'm proud of this one. No grinder. Forged to shape on a charcoal forge with a hammered finish. Extreme low tech. I guess it's just a matter of tastes. Thank the Lord this world is filled with the wonders of diversity.

hi guys, kind of new at making knines.a few yrs ago,I made a few after watching my friend i had been in nam with.done all by file and hand sanding,I DID pretty good, seem to have a talent.haven:tdone itfor awhile.BUT I AM BACK....GOT A COOTE GRINDER, AND MESSED UP MY BOWIE I WAS HAND MAKING.SO GOOD TOOLS ARE COOL,I JUST GOT TO LEARN TO USE THEM,,WHICH I AM GETTING USED TO THE BELT,LOVE THIS FORUM,NEW GUYS,CHECK OUT THE ARCHIVES,ALOT OF LEARNING THERE.MY 10 CT

Man this is a great thread! And just think, without electricity, modern technology, computers, etc. We wouldnt be sharing these ideas!

Tim, great Bowie! I want to have one of your pieces for my growing collection someday! Neo Tribal all hand made of course!

i haven't posted here in a while. nice to see the guys are still on. btw, i use a 1X30 grinder and made knives til i got the feel of it. then i *made* a 3"x132" belt grinder, and it's hella-cool. i like it, variable speed, and 1.5 hp. the thing with belt sanders is, if they're fancy it's easier to do the work, and if they're powerful it's quicker. also the reason that big name knifemakers use alot of pwerful grinders- down time for switching systems reduces money made, and reduces how many knives you can make in an alotted time. i just got a few knifemaking movies for christmas and i also noticed the ecsessive amount of belt sanders.

Tom:

I have a whole cabinet full of holes. What size do you need?

(Yeah - I'm here, too!)

DDR: I agree, cutting screws to length is the pits!

I SERIOUSLY doubt if I am telling you anything you dont know.....but I made a plate the thickness of the screw length I use.....drilled and tapped 30 holes in it. I screw them all in......cut them off with my cuttoff wheel in my small bench grinder.. flaten whats left on my disc sander and voila (fancy french word for there you have it!!!

) 30 screws to length in about 2 min or less. I also counter sunk some of the holes so I can make some shorter ones when I want...
