Half Dome hike

Looks like I currently have two spots open on my HD permit. Ban is currently 70% commited ;) . So if anyone feels they are in shape enough to hike about 16 miles and 4000ft elevation they are welcome to come. Heres the catch, its this Friday the 16th. Im driving up in the afternoon on the 15th, staying overnight in Curry Village and hiking Friday morning. Heading back Friday afternoon if I can physically move my legs. Ill be staying in one of the canvas tents which is supposed to have a double and 3 singles, should be enough room for 4 if thats what the tent has. Im driving my pickup which only seats two so figuring out transportation falls to you. Let me know if your interested, I will be posting this one other place.
 
aww, that sounds like fun but I really can't this week! another other week and I'd be in for sure!! :grumpy:
 
I did this hike back over the Labor Day weekend in '07, before they instituted the permit system. Talk about MEYHEM!!! But totally worth the view! Have a GREAT time!
 
I am more like 80 percent committed. Just have to work out a few details. Haven't done a real hike in close to a decade. I just hope I can hang.
 
Damn, I would have been game, if I didn't have to take off another day or two (especially since your yurt houses 4). After hiking around toulumne and glacier point this past trip, I think I can handle the elevation well enough. Oh well, next time. I'm looking forward to some pics!

If the permit situation is the same by the next time I go, I think I might hit up Cloud's Rest and Sentinel Dome instead....
 
Dug through my stuff this morning to find my hiking boots. Nowhere to be found :(. I guess I will have to check my storage locker. I will just wear some sneakers if I can't find them. I won't be carrying anything crazy heavy so I should be fine without the ankle support. Got some NIB Raichle Hiking Boots from years ago but I won't have time to break them in.

This little trip will be my much needed mini vacation to get away from everything.
 
I'd love to go. My legs and lungs are a different story. Have fun guys! Take some picture to share with us unfortunate souls that could not make it.

Just got back home and I am beat! Need a hot shower and some good rest. Only got about 2.5hrs of sleep last night before starting the trail at 5am. Got to the top at around 11am. Will try to post some pics tomorrow.
 
Damn dude, you drove up there yesterday, 2.5 hours of sleep, hit the trail, and drove all the way back after doing it. I bet you must be tired.
 
Im walking like an old man today, that hike is brutal. Wasnt crowded at all, thanks to the permits, lots of good looking women hiking too.

NICE pics J! That shot of the back of the valley is stupendous. I wish I been able to make it. Next time :D

We came down Nevada and Vernal Falls back into the valley. That stretch going uphill must have been a little workout. Man, it must have been nice to not have masses of people on the rails. All the pics I've ever seen, that hillside is thronged with folks.

How long did it take you guys round trip?
 
It took less then 11 hours. Ban could have gotten up quicker, I slowed him down. On the way back you get slowed up by hikers down by the falls.
