Smaller K2? Lil' K2?

The details aren't the same but it just seems close enough that a sprint run on the SB with different steel and maybe a slightly different profile would be more logical than shrinking down a knife and going through the design phase all over. The big issue with a spring SB would be cost. Adding $50-$100 for a limited run would put you in a very limited market. On the other hand, if they could keep or reduce the K2's price in say that $200 range you get a lot bigger market.

First off, I consider the K2 to be a trailing point and the SB to be a, well, bowie. Other than that, the SB has contoured scales compared to the K2s very thin slab construction, the SB has a backspace compared to the K2s extremely minimal open pillar construction, the SB has a tip up wire clip compared to the K2s tip down stamped clip and the SB is made with a great all around stainless steel while the K2 is made with an extreme tool steel. They also have handle shapes that are quite a bit different. They are both titanium frame locks with tips that lie high on the blade but other than that they are quite a bit different and saying they are not sort of devalues what the two designers have done.

Well said! [emoji106]

Agreed.
When ever, I read people calling the K2 a Bowie, I always think, that to me it has more of a Persian influence....but then of course the Bowie field is vast, varied and nebulous.

Spyderco calls the K2 blade Bowie styled ..., so there.

As posted before, it would be interesting to hear the designers influences.

I've never seen a K2 that has a blade point that trails off higher than the axis of the blade. I consider that to be a trailing point, such as my Emerson Persian.

BFC do you know if Spyderco or Farid added the phrase "Bowie-style" blade to the description?

BREAKING NEWS!
Quote from Man himself Farid Mehr:
"the ball is in their court and I would be happy to see the 3.5" version go in to production"
And from myself, Mini K2 should be 3,9 as it is. What a fantastic blade! Just imagine 3,9 CPM 10V!
Common Sal bring it to us!

The issues we're dealing with are not regrading the design, but the designer. There seems to be some disagreement regarding trademark issues. We've written with no response. The ball is actually in the designer's court.

I will pull out of this completely.

Ok then, it looks like it's decided😀

You've got to love the efficiency of the forum... I'm ready to spend my hard earned $$

I don't think I can resist buying a mini K2 even for a split of second, and even though I am planning to buy a second Spydiechef and maybe a Slysz Bowie early next year.

Hi Farid,

Perhaps you should be letting me know, rather than "public" announcements, since I'm the guy in charge. It seems "your way" is not working with me. Our attorney is still being paid on this issue.

That is too sad to hear as a potential customer, knife enthusiast, and user. Hope that you guys reconcile this in a civilized way and offer us a yet another great product.

Sal, at the end of the day this is actually a good example that should be linked to the other USA vs Taiwan thread. In that thread I mentioned that us end-users have zero clue as to the 100's of decisions that go into making your knives.

My comment isn't a judgement or analysis of the issues seen in this thread, just a commentary on how easy it for us to put our .02 cents in on what we want to see in Spyderco sprint runs, collaborations, etc. But we can do it without wading into all the challenges that actually go into it.

You and Farid make great knives, the K2 is held in very high regard among us enthusiasts. We are lucky to have had the opportunity to be part of that.

And how often do we get to talk to some of the giants in the knife-making universe like we have here? :)
