It appears you answered your own question.

Make note, however, that this only works if you are able to change out the lock face/lockbar stabilizer. Blades and locks are ground to work with each other. When you start swapping parts that are "mated," you will change the structural integrity of the lock.

Was short not coming into contact with blade by a couple hairs causing vertical blade play. I also thought would just be able to swap blades without changing the inserts but wasnt the case.

The BW blade fits just as or better than than original blade now. Dont believe any structual integrity was compromised. Just be careful/gentle taking insert off / on.

You don't understand what I'm telling you.

Where the blade and the lock face meet cannot be changed. Yes, you can swap the blades, but you must swap the lock bar insert as well. On knives that do not have a lock bar insert or interchangeable liners, you cannot change the blade.

Not all lock geometry is the same. You can do as you did and change the blade and the insert, because they were fit to each other. That's also the reason why when you just swapped the blade, you had play. The rest of the parts should be interchangeable, because they are all made to the same tolerances.

As far as my comment about structural integrity... If you try to fit two fitted parts together, that were not originally designed to fit together, then you will compromise the integrity of the lock. That's why you had blade play and the lock did not engage properly.

Do you understand me now?

Yes this blade swap would not have worked while having the knife be able to function properly without the matching lock insert for the matching blade. The way its set up now is more than fine.
