Haven’t posted here in a while, and after talking to a friend about it, I figured I’d show my latest.
I’ve named this one “Haiyan”, and it features a 9-1/2” blade in Crucible CPM-Magnacut, .210” thick. Beveled spine, hand-finished satin flats with machine satin primary bevels for contrast. The titanium seppa has been heat anodized blue, with a touch of neko-gaki. Carbon fiber tsuba, Terotuf handle core with cobalt blue metallic rayskin, and Emperor’s node under carbon fiber tsukaito. Balances at my maker’s mark, and weighs 15 ounces.

A surprisingly nimble blade that looks big but feels light.

This one is awaiting a final edge, as well as a leather sheath by my bride, then off to SharpByCoop SharpByCoop for his magic.

Absolutely stunning piece Matt. The blue on black is fabulous. I can't wait to see Coop's pics.👌👌:)

Beautiful piece of work.

(I look forward to the destruction tests. 🤣 )

Awesome buddy! Like the colors and materials. Really diggin' that seppa.

not "traditional"....but definitely a fantastic 21st century update of a classic style. Details are spot on!

your friend sounds like a smart person, it behooves you to take such good advice.
glad to see you posting your work here!

Everything flows perfectly.... nailed it, buddy! Can't wait to see what Jill does with it.... and Coop!

I told ya nobody would notice that you dropped the seppa and kicked it across the shop floor.... although you coulda tried buffing the scratches out.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I've been trying to limit my time in the digital arena. Just not good for anyone, I don't think, but the downside is that I worry that my absence offends others, especially my friends. It's my hope that they understand. ☺️

I promise to report back here after I get a shot of this one from Coop!

The neko-gake combined with the cobalt and white rayskin make me think of a meteor shower for some reason. Just an amazing piece.
