I am an avid fisherman, and am also a guide. I carry a leatherman free p4 with me fishing every time. Rust has always been an issue, i dump oil on it reguarly, still gets some surface rust and pitting, and with leatherman tolerances it does not take much to ruin the tool. Why doesnt anyone make an lc200n or vanax or magnacut even m390/20cv multitool. Even AEB-L or n690 is considerably more stainless than leathermans steel. I have titanium fishing pliers but having pliers, scissors, a knife, an awl with a threading hole (great for knots in high wind or low light), bottle opener, and a heavy blunt object all in one!! I personally am stunned quiet carry hasnt made one, or leatherman or sak, or anyone. And i understand its my fault for not maintaining the knife but i personally think a super corrosion resistant version would sell like hot cakes even for 300 bucks or 350

Not sure how much it helps, but the shiny finish Victorinox uses on theirs is much better about corrosion than the rougher satin and blasted finishes Leatherman uses.
I’ll have to checkout their product line all i have is a pioneer

On Instagram, and maybe here, there are guys who do custom SAKs, etc. I don't recall names but you can search. Tell them to use dendritic cobalt (or whatever it's called) like SM-100, Stellite 6K, etc. And make other choices as you desire. Costs more, but you know what you are getting.

I never thought about that, it would be worth it to me, as after about a month of use they are considerably harder to use

Search Insta, BF, and Youtube. Use SAK in your search, maybe custom SAK.

I had one done a couple years ago with ano-ed Titanium scales, S30V stonewashed blades, and a Spydie hole blade that I could open one handed. And now I can't find it. I think he had Survive in his name. Anyway, I'm sure you'll find someone. I bet there is someone on BF who would help you out.

CUDA makes a line of Titanium fishing tools. A little spendy. Dendritic Cobalt is cast Stellite that forms dendrites as it cools. David Boye uses Stellite 6-B in his BDC (Boye Dendritic Cobalt) knives. He also made BDS (Boye Dendritic Steel) blades out of cast 440-C.

Here’s the data for LC200N steel used in the SALT series knives and Victorinox steel. I think you’ll find Vic steel compares well minus the nitrogen and is plenty corrosion resistant 👍. I’ve had hundreds of Swiss Army knives go through my shop, some in the worst condition imaginable, the aluminum corrodes but the tools have zero rust. While 1.4110 is no super steel it makes for an excellent outdoor multitool.

LC200N
0.3% Carbon, 15% Chromium, 0.5% Nitrogen, 0.95% Molybdenum, 0.5% Nickel, and 1.00% Manganese.

1.4110 steel
Chromium sits between 13.3 to 14.8% ensuring its stainless steel properties. The carbon will normally hold just below .70% in order to provide the tensile strength needed to last, and Mo, Mn, and Si are found around .75 to 1.0%

Awesome! I guess i need a Victorinox and to sell some leathermans

Spikediesel said that with Swiss Army knives only the aluminum corrodes. I don’t have access to mine right now but aren’t the Swisstool and the Spirit totally stainless with no aluminum? Separately, do they have brass pins? Thanks.
