Love the blade shape, handle shape but the deal breaker for me is there isn't a stop pin visible. Which means you guys are using the hidden pin riding in a groove inside?

I've had those before and sooner or later lint and dust build up inside the track and the pin can't complete it's course, and then the lock bar does not engage properly. To clear this out you would need to disassemble the knife and remove the packed bits of dirt that had accumulated inside.

I suppose some will say you can just hold it under running water, but then you are not always cleaning it out completely and you are putting water in a bearing area.

SO, I hope you folks take that to heart, while it must be easier maybe to make these this way? I for one much prefer to have a stop pin and when and if debris gets stuck on there, you can see it, clean it off easily and continue on.

I just bought a 037 and it has the pin riding in tracks, that are easy to access without disassembly. You think there's a difference in design that will make that impossible on this model?

If you can’t touch it you can’t clean it

Then you should be good to go!

I found a video that shows the front of the Relic and the pin does ride in an enclosed track which will lead to dirt/junk being packed against the end and will, eventually, require you to disassemble the knife to clean that out. You may be able wash it out but take the risk of just making it worse from what ever you try to hose it out with.

AND saying all that, it probably isn't that big a deal to take apart, just if you make it so you Don't have to take it apart, all the better. For now that design is a deal breaker for me and I'm worried a lot of designers are jumping on the band wagon of using that more and more :(

I've only had a few knives with that kind of design but I never had any trouble with it. As far as disassembly, Civivi tends to be friendlier than average. Even so, a lot can be accomplished with a Q-Tip or a can of Dust-off.

In the other thread I linked to shows some of the issues I am talking about, when you can not reach with a Q-tip you don't have too many options.

And it's just me ;) and it isn't for me so there's that, I prefer a knife that I don't have to take apart so it will lock up when I want to use it, if you ran into such a situation it may affect you in the same way, but, my pockets, both of my friends pockets as well, seemed to gather enough dust and grit to cause a problem.

jill jackson jill jackson model she talked about, the front is accessible and you can get to those inner areas to clean out without taking the knife apart, but this one and a lot lately are not made that way.

I have a few different brands with moving stop pins and only the 037 has accessable tracks. Which I am thankful for, being this model is so great for a larger folder to carry. I was worried it would be hard to clip in pocket, with the recessed clip, but it's a smooth procedure.
