New guy here! 🙋🏻‍♂️

Firstly, thanks for being an awesome community! I was introduced to Busse knives by a good friend of mine almost 20 years ago. As a life long Busse collector, he taught me all about their unmatched durability and converted me into an instant fan. He’s still a dedicated HOG to this day and lurks in this forum. I eventually bought my first Busse (20th Anniversary Mean Street) in 2012 and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, I never discovered the greater Busse community. I never knew what I was missing out on in the forums. With that said, I recently got the urge to get back into knife collecting and had him show me his collection again. Since then I’ve already picked up 3 more Busse knives in just a few weeks (Magnum Outlaw, Mini Mean Steet - INFI XC, and Desert Patrol).

With my renewed interest in Busse knives has also come the discovery of this group! I see a lot of talk about bourbon and whiskey within the Busse community. Two of my favorite things! I feel like the two hobbies share a lot of common aspects. Handmade, craftsmanship, attention to detail, and pure American! With that said, I’m curious if anyone knows if the fine folks at Busse, or anyone else in the community, ever do any swapping of knives for bourbon / whiskey? I live in the middle of bourbon country and work in the industry. I would love to make some friends who share the common Busse / Bourbon interest. 🔪 🥃

Thanks for having me,

Welcome aboard SquatchMan! Busse knives have another thing in common with good bourbon, they are hard to put down! I don't know if anyone at the mothership trades INFI goodness for brown nectar but I am sure some people around here may consider it. I suspect you will need at least a gold level forum membership to find out though.

If you haven't seen these threads yet, lots of whisky/bourbon lovers on here, including me!

Welcome SquatchMan 🥃

Glad to see you back in action👍🏼

There’s some scotch/whiskey bartering to be had here. In fact, it (or guns, or sick money) sometimes can be the only way to wrangle away sweet old blades.

Welcome, SquatchMan SquatchMan !

I have to make a visit to bourbon country one of these days. The distillery that produces Buffalo Trace (can't remember the distillery name) would be my first stop.

Welcome to our little corner of Bladeforums. If you have a love of fine blades and fine drink then you have found a loving home here.

The Busse Brothers, Jerry and Dan, are both big into bourbon. Personally I am more of a tequila guy, just never quite acquired the taste for bourbon.

I will say though that bourbon country Kentucky is one of my favorite places to be. Between hunting and all the horses around there, it is my heaven on earth.

Have you tried Sotol? If you like Mezcal you will probably enjoy it. Very different than Tequila.

Welcome. I am a big whisky fan, but unfortunately, I have to much of it and have no need for more. Always looking for a good deal though. Even though I don't need more. lol. And I am more of a scotch guy

Cobalt can you answer this? With all those bottles stored vertically do you worry about the product? Like you store wine horizontally for long periods of time.

I don’t have much fancy liquor I don’t drink in a few months timeline.

Verticle is the prefered way to store hard liquor as the alcohol degrades cork when you lay it on its side. Problem is when the corks dry out they break easily. Not sure why companies didt switch over to synthetic corks 20 years ago.

I'm guessing if you've got one unopened you've had it before... how's the Weller antique?

I've only tried the special reserve and 12 year. Doubt I'll ever come across the antique but in the event I do I'm curious your thoughts.

I think the weller antique is the best bang for the buck weller there is. And if you mix ot with weller 12 it blows away pappy 12. I mixed the two up and put them in a bottle. Took it to my frienda poker party, where he had a new bottle of pappy 12 opened. I poured everyone blind and they all thought the weller was the pappy because it was so smooth.

My favorite weller though is Full proof. But a little harder to get. If the 12 year was bottled in bond proof wise it would likely be near the top.

Thanks for all the hospitality guys! It’s good to know I’m not the only bourbon fanatic in here. Some beautiful knives in the comments and some great whiskey!
