How To 0.020" Ti liners, would that be dumb?

Hi,

I'm debating making a double detent folder, and my school has some 0.020" titanium sheet. I'm curious if you guys think it would be too thin. As I said, it is going to be a double detent slippy, not a locking folder. I'm thinking that if I make the "lockbars" (it won't lock, but I can't think of what else to call them) super short, they would still be stiff enough.

Thanks,
Johnathan

There is one sure way to find out ... make one. If it works, it will be a really lightweight folder. If it doesn't, you will have templates for one on .040 Ti.

If that thickness can hold steel balls it would work , I think .

Yeah that's what I'm worried about, the detents are 60 thou (ish), and the liners are only 20, so I think it'll definitely stick out the other side, but it might hold. I'm going to try putting a ball in, before I start the knife.
If that not work you can make pins from of appropriate thickness old or broken HSS drill bits ? Just round one side ? I can t see any reason why that would not work ? Maybe it's even a better solution than a balls ??

I've always thought that something like that would be good for a framelock, I'm not sure how it would work with such thin liners though.

I'm sure that it would not work :) For moment I forget that we talk about 0.5mm thick ............ Maybe slightly over sized balls would work better , more contact surface with thin titanium ?
