Ordered a "SK-5" Trail Master from a vendor on eBay Sunday, then started reading here about the TM and found out that they are making them in a better 0-1 steel. I was pretty bummed that I didn't hold out for the new steel.

Lo and behold, my TM arrived today. It is a 0-1 Trail Master instead of the SK-5.

You missed the http part in your link above.

Luck was on your side with this knife. CS has stated that the change to O1 is a rolling one, meaning that O1 knives are slowly replacing SK-5s as they are sold. Conga rats.

Thanks for that my friend. Yes, the carbon gods were on my side. I had been kicking myself in the rear ever since I placed the order. In the description, blade materials said "sk-5 high carbon", I was really happy when I slid the cardboard off and it read "01". Sigh of relief. I don't wanna break any rules, so a p.m. will reveal who I bought it from.

Good for you! I have a couple of O-1 knives and have really been falling in love with the steel lately. I'm really starting to think a third Trail Master may be in order.

This is my first Cold Steel product, have yet to cut anything but paper. Such a beautifully built blade, can't wait til the weather breaks so I can get out in the wilderness with it. Got a thin coat of RemOil on it for now.

Same thing happened to me. Was able to find a Trail Master sk-5 on an online retailer for $114 shipped, but before I jumped on it I sent an e-mail to them to ask if they had any of the new 0-1's and they replied after checking out their warehouse that they only had the Sk-5''s. Placed my order anyway since I doubted I'd be able to find such a deal on a NIB Trail Master anywhere else. When it arrived I took it out and first thing I noticed was the swedge was really sharp...that struck a light bulb of what I've heard about the new 0-1's, then noticed the different handle design and slowly turned the blade around slowly and saw the Taiwan 01 stamp. Guess they missed one when they were checking or sent it on purpose after finding one but never been so happily surprised, love it to death, amazing/beautiful knife.

Beautiful knife indeed, the swedge on mine is easily sharp enough to cut you. I don't do any "batoning" with my knives, but it would destroy a baton in that situation. The "rolling change" to the 01 steel has retailers confused I believe, the SKU is the same, only way to know for sure is to pull the cardboard off to see the mark.

I have still yet to cut anything but paper, I don't wanna stain the blade hahaha. Soon as the weather warms, I'll be using the snot out of it, then when it gets dull, a convexed edge is in her future.
