Anyone one use them that can write decently. The few I have tried haev leads so hard that you have to indent the page to see them. I would like colored leads which acts like 2B or softer.

If you go to a big art supply store they'll have colored leads that are softer with a much higher pigment content than the ones in stationery stores, though I don't know if they'll have .7mm.

Artist's quality colored pencils, like the Berol Prismacolor, are a standard item. But making these necessarily-soft (wax-based) "leads" in small enough size to work in a mechanical pencil seems unlikely.

I have some in either .5 or .7. I picked them up on clearance a few "back to school" seasons ago.

They write like a colored art pencil (dark and bold) and are soft and strong.

I'll have to dig em up when I get home to tell you the brand. Maybe I can send you a few too.

The cheap ones that I have used feel "waxy" when you write with them.

Probably using the same brand :D

I too will check the art supply places, for a colored mechanical pencil is quite a good idea... if it actually writes worth a darn! ;)

Staedlers blue is SOFT. Write with them with any pressure to get the pigment to adhere and it'll break

ok, I looked again and these are 1.3mm and they are slightly shimmery. They were sold by Pentel as "ish" gel pencils.

If I can find the pencils that go with them would you be interested?

I've used Pentel colored lead for years, mostly the blue. I don't know if they make it in .7mm. Not great for leaving dark lines, but perfect for laying out drawings. Blueline machines don't transfer the blue layout lines. Kinda waxy and somewhat brittle. You may just want to go with the Pentel colored Pencils. They work really good, and you could sharpen them with a knife! Good Luck let us know what you find out.

I much prefer an old fashioned 2 mm lead holder, even for regular black leads, they are great specially for the softer leads, I sharpen both ends so that when one gets dull I turn it around to have a sharp point longer, if I´m going to use it for long I can keep the sharpener and some sandpaper handy. I really don´t use color leads much but I have a made in Japan set that came with one each of about 10 or 12 colors, will try checking it out tonight to comment.

Just to follow up.

My 2mm color leads are made in Taiwan, 12 colors one each in a hard plastic case, brand name Hui-i, after trying them a bit they seem somewhat on the hard side, I´d say harder than HB, not bad but not particularly good, for coloring I´d rather use some fine regular color pencils, the packaging is marked Hui-i Fashion Stationary, likely designed for kids.

GarageBoy,

I still find Faber Castell and others (Sanford, Staedler) at local Stationary stores (Mexico city), I have a whole bunch that I got from an "On Sale" basket some time ago, haven´t seen many in color lately but haven´t really looked. Surely you can find them on line, here´s one place from a Google search:
