This knife was an impulse buy from a gunshow dealer last weekend. It was not on my wish list for this year but after handling it I couldn't leave it lay. Beautiful high polished dark blueing on spring steel and an interesting & grippy Rosewood handle. It is truly a little piece of jewelry and perfect in every way.... cosmetically that is. I hesitate to say negative things about my favotite knife maker but that sheath!! ...OMG, what were they thinking?? In my opinion, totally uncomplimentary to the knife in size or design. Allen nuts & bolts? This thing is begging for a very small neck or pouch sheath. It's the only one I've seen but on mine the knife doesn't slide very nicely into the sheath, either direction. If you are buying this knife only for cutting air, you can skip the sheath and use the small provided stand, I assume it to be Buffalo horn.

yeah your right about the sheath....LOL how about a rich drk secondary different shade of leather overlapping the main body of the sheath with the BUCK logo embossed, that would be sweet! instead of metal & the grommets are not much to be desired.

Ordered this knife from Larry and just waiting to get it. Thanks for the review Desoto. Making me more anxious to receive mine.

Thanks for posting. Was thinking about getting one but after seeing it "in hand" it's a lot smaller than I was thinking. Even knowing the OAL I guess I pictured it a little larger. Still a good looking knife.

How does it compare in size to that sweet little caping knife you have?

A good thought (and you have a good memory). A quickie picture that does neither knife justice. Here is the 017 Thorn alongside the Alaskan Guide 474 Caping knife (the same size as a Mini-Mentor). Both knifes are held with a finger on the choil. The Thorn fits reasonable well in the Mini-Mentor sheath.

Hahaha..... your hand shrunk!

Dangit, now I want one of those!
I have been wanting a small fixed blade for harvesting vegetables etc in the garden.
Perhaps a mini mentor would be more appropriate though......

And cheaper too.... if the THORN were a steak, it would cost $1,882/lb..... :D

Any more Thorn owners? Found a pretty good deal on this one and I'm thinking I might go for it.
