What is the composition of the steel used in the new Becker line? Thank you.

If memory serves, this is the same designation as 50100 steel which is 52100 with a little less chromium. A fine steel. You can find out more info in the FAQ on steels that Joe Talmadge has made up. It is in the FAQ directory on this site.

OK, no one is going to confirm this, but Joe Talmage's FAQ on steel as well as other sources indicates that this is the same as Carbon V -- a great steel IMHO; I've got half a dozen CS knives in Carbon V and have given as many away. Cold Steel claims its heat treat is proprietary, though -- possibly a moot point as other unconfirmed sources indicate that Camillus may make the Carbon V blades for Cold Steel.

Alberta Ed,

You are making too many assumptions!
Not everything you say in your post is accurate, therefore your conclusion must be considered suspect.

The Becker Knives will be made of 1070-6C.
This is a Camillus designation for a propietry steel that a steel mill produces for US, to OUR specifications.
This factory has been heat treating carbon steel for almost 125 years. We think we have learnt a few tricks!

As much as I appreciate you comparing us to Cold Steel, I believe the Becker line should be allowed to stand alone & to be judged on it's own merits of performance, functionality & value.

Let me know what you all think after you have had a chance to "play" with one!

Thanks,
Phil

A-r-r-rgh! I shouldn't have assumed. Thanks for the clarification. I am looking forward to learning more about 0170-6 and heat treat (don't need to know trade secrets, thanks). I already have the new Camillus catalogue thanks to your efficient staff, and hope that you'll locate some dealers closer to Edmonton than Calgary (contact me if you want some suggestions). I'm looking forward to handling the new Becker line (I have an original Becker Campanion, and it will probably take a while to wear out, though). Speaking as a high carbon steel aficionado, have you had any thoughts about a carbon steel blade a little bit smaller, maybe something along the lines of a mini-Campanion?
