does anyone have any comments about this carbon steel used by camillus, especially in comparison with ATS34/154CM or VG10 or D2? I'm considering getting either the large (5inch +) or small (4inch) Camillus CQB fixed blade in that steel with the black coating, cos the price is rather reasonable.

how is the steel in terms of corrosion resistance, edge holding, toughness, sharpenability?

any comments on that particular fixed blade?

I can't do searches....

Thanks!:D

0170-6C is a proprietary steel of Camillus, you might want to ask about it over at the Camillus forum.

If I remember correctly, I think this steel is basically the same as 52100 but with 1/3 less chromium. Definitely not a stainless.

This alloy is a non-stainless tool steel with vanadium optimised for cutlery. It is somewhat similar to O1 tool steel that was a longtime favorite of custom knife makers a couple decades ago. It should be tougher than the other alloys that you mentioned and only VG10 should rival it for sharpness. It won't hold an edge as long as D2, but should perform well compared to the other two alloys.

Very similar to Cold Steel's Carbon V, if what I read is true: ranks up there as one of the very best high carbon (i.e., non-stainless) steels. To quote Mr. Becker, the boys at Camillus know their heat treat and it cuts like a shrieking witch.

I love O1 and Carbon V, and knowing what Camillus can do with a heat treat(as already stated), have no dobut anyone who buys knife in this steel, as long as you know how to treat a carbon steel blade, will be extremely pleased.
