I gave my beloved 0300 to my daughter to send to my son-in-law deployed in Afghanistan, along with a new pair of Oakley sunglasses that were custom order to have no reflective services. They match the 0300 perfectly. I wanted to give him a knife he can rely 100% on. She told him, and he cried a little, because he knew how much it ment to me , but he means more. Then she cried, then I cried...
What kershaw or ZT do you know that is deployed?

I'm not deployed but if you would, please pass along my thanks for his service and sacrifice

Good for you. I'm sure your son in law will put them to good use on a daily basis. Pass on regards from another Afghan vet.

I just got word from my son tonight that he is headed out on his 2nd tour to Afghanistan on the 25th of April.
I only have 11 knives in my collection and I am sending him my ZT 0350 and a 4sevens flashlight. My prayers and thanks go out to all that make the sacrifice to serve our great nation.

Very nice jesture MaddDogg. I really hope your son-in-law comes back the same way he left. Both physically and mentally.

if your son in law ends up in Kabul, Bagram, or any of the FOB's in RC-West, i'll buy him dinner @ the DFAC. PM me, i'll give you contact info to pass along to him. nice gift, better story.

That's a nice gesture. Please thank him for his service.

Then buy yourself another 0300.

Please forgive me, Not trying to hijack this thread. I see there are folks that have been deployed and just want to ask 1 question. I am getting my son a flashlight to take with him and want to know if they have cr123 batteries avail on base? Or should I go with an AA light. TIA.

me too..

What a thoughtful thing to do. Instead of going out and picking up a new knife to send, you sent one from your personal stash! That also says a lot about how great ZTs are...

Reminds me of a tee shirt I have...

It depends on the base and the demand. When I was in Iraq I had no trouble getting them but I was on a big COB. And if worse comes worse they sell them in 12 packs, it shouldn't be too hard to grab a few sets and send them his way after he gets settled down, at least until you know if he can get them at the PX. Tell him to be safe and keep his head on a swivel.

major bases, yes. Bagram, KAF, Phoenix in Kabul, Eggers in Kabul, and all the German PX'es at the NATO sites have 'em. honestly, though, do for him what i did for myself, and get him a light that will accept RCR123's and a charger. or buy him a box of SureFire's, they're 20-25 bucks and have him take them, then mail him some when when he's down to a few left.

my .02, YMMV.

Every time he use that knife he will feel a little closer to home. I can't help but picture him returning and pulling out the knife, still cover in "moon dust", some good wear marks on the blade and the bond between you two it made stronger.
He and all our Servicemen and women and their families are in my thoughts, especially today. Thank you all for your service.

Dan
