I believe there is 0551 problems and 0551 questions. but now, it has evolved into an issue. I bought this knife (model #0886) about a month ago I believe. carried it in my pocket for a few weeks and thought i fell in love with it. that is until i noticed a tiny amount of forward and back blade play that also contributed to a tiny amount of framelock wobble. no bueno, right? so i look here on the BF for a quick fix for this. i know i could send it to kershaw/ZT and it would be fixed, but it would also probably take somewhere around a month (at least) to get back to me here in Korea. I found a couple of the videos previously posted in the latter threads on how to fix said blade play. so i took it apart and tried them out and thought i had it nailed. yet it still didn't lock up the way it was supposed to (to those saying it locks up like a vault...). so I figured, "eh, i'll be able to live with a little blade play problems. it's not like i am chopping down forests or killing zombies with this knife." so I put it back together and thought i would run it through one last test. this is also the test that kicked the blur (God rest it's soul) out of my pocket. the dreaded, feared, and also not recommended...SPINE WHACK. now, I am no moron when it comes to blades, so I took ALL necessary precautions to protect myself and others, even my room mates china doll collection, from danger. army approved ballistic glasses, kevlar road gloves, ACH, IBA, and groin protector. the whole works (please tell me by now you don't believe me on the ach, iba part. called sarcasm. try sometime, you'll like it!
anyway, i give it a nice hardy "oops, i was cutting with me knife and it cut through so fast, it hit the desk" whack. and guess what....shablam!!!!! blade collapses and framelock gives way. now, i think to myself "hmm, i love ZT. the only thing i love more than ZT is Kershaw. what a coincidence. but what would cause what i claim (and believe) the greatest knife company (and most awesome collaboration knife ever) to give like that?" so i tried it again. not surprisingly, same result. now, i am not one to prove the theory of insanity, Korea has already done that for me, so i decided not to do it again and instead log onto the old computer and ask you gents what you think i should do. these are my current options
not necessarily in order)
1. Send it in and wait for a month for it to hopefully come back. fixed
2. sell it online to someone who has the patience and locality to actually return it and still get to enjoy there knife for more than half the year.
3. Sell it online to someone who thinks they can fix it and who has time to tinker with things such as this.
or 4. Hold onto it for it's collectors value and watch the 0560 or a real hinderer slip from my grasps, never to be obtained for lack of funds.
any input into this would be much appreciated. re-posts of the same videos will be ignored. been there, tried that. ALSO....i am a single soldier living in a near God-forsaken country with out as much as an ACE hardware store around to buy necessary equipment to drill this, or tap that, or modify. sorry if it seems a little ominous to attempt to respond to this one, but I am kinda upset that the knife i was most anticipating didn't live up to what i dreamed it would....
