I'm assuming the upcoming models ZT 0560 & 0561 are the flipper versions of the current 0551? Are there any other major differences? What is the blade length of the 0551? Any differences between the 0560 and 0561 other than color?

They are similar designs but entirely different knives. The 0560/1's are a pinch longer, have a flipper, different pivot, lowrider pocket clip, and have a different handle texture.

Here's a pic with them to show the size comparison.

So that's a 0550 shown up top. Did the Elmax 0551 also not have a lanyard hole? If not, add the lanyard hole as another difference in the 056x models. EDIT: 0551 has a circular lanyard hole.

The 0550 as shown doesn't have any clip mounting holes on the G10. Did the 055x series have just one or two possible clip locations? The 056x as shown looks like a four position clip. EDIT: 0551 has a four-position clip.

Increased jimping on the handles and smoother curves and corners make the knife look a little more finished, as well.

Lastly, the 0560 as shown looks like it has a hollow grind on the blade. I thought the 055x models had a flat grind. Can someone confirm the geometries?

At first I thought this was a "do a dern search" thread, but it seems like the differences are actually numerous and subtle. Thanks to OP for posting. =)

EDIT: Come to think of it, it might be easier to state the similarities:
- Ti framelock
- G10 front scale
- Four-position clip
- barrel-spacer open-back design
- Safety disc on lockbar (not sure what the official name is)
- Drop-point Elmax blade, XM18-style two-sided stud

The thing is, the first four features are shared by countless knives. So the similarities shared by just these two knives are few indeed. In short, these are very different knives, through and through.

I assume thats a composite pic, and every element may not be to exact scale. Just a guess.

Or, it could just have a big butt.

If the blade is .25" longer why does the 'butt' look so much bigger? (longer handle)

All the tips are lined up so it could be the illusion of that. If you measure from pivot to tip, and then pivot to end of handle, the difference is actually the smallest with the 560.
If you extend the blade by 1/4", you necessarily extend the handle by at least 1/4" too to accomodate that, meaning the whole knive is now at least 1/2" longer, which is approximately is (vs the 551).

I can answer this. The 551 and the 550 will both have lanyard holes and holes to mount the clip on teh G-10 (lefty) side. The 561 is flat ground, despite what the image looks like.

"...the pivot is different..." does not quite tell how largely they differ. The newer ball- bearing pivot maybe the single greatest advantage of the newer knife in terms of function.

Agree,iamtoast.
An astute observation....I was thinkin' it; just couldn't word it! :o

And to those of us with old hand injuries, the Flipper is a Godsend.Especially since thumbstuds are nearly useless to us....

Overall, the 0560/0561 is 0.675" longer than the 0550/0551. The blade is 0.25" longer, which means the handle is around 0.425" longer. With almost another 1/2 inch the handle is going to look bigger.

I know that I've asked this before, but do the 0560 and 0561 actually have stonewashed blades? Every picture that I've seen of the blade looks more like the 0550 in the above pic, as opposed to the way that the 0561 looks in the pic,

The 0550/1 and 0560/1 both are stonewashed. Also those pics are renderings and not the actual knives.

Right! In the rendering, the blade looks stonewashed. But in the real pics from blade, it looks beadblasted.
