0560/1 lockup question

So my 0560 locks up at around 30-35% and it feels like a solid lock up with no play in any direction. Just out of curiosity after reading a couple posts in another thread about lock bar strength and shock loads I took a pocket holster for my lcp and held it on the edge of my desk and hit the spine of my open 0560 blade on it. It only takes about the strength of a good solid door knock(think along the lines of a police knock) to pop the lock, should I be concerned about that or is that acceptable? I mean I don't plan on doing anything with any of my folders that includes whacking the spine and I figure that even if I do that just having a firm grip on the handle will strengthen the lockup from the pressure, right?

I would honestly hate to have send it in just because it is my new favorite toy by a longshot and I am having way to much fun flipping it and showing it off to my $20 and below knife people friends(might actually have one or two of them thinking about stepping up to some "real" knives after letting them play with it for awhile).

Thanks!

Just my opinion: if you don't plan to use the knife as a defensive tool, I wouldn't worry about it. If you do want a reliable weapon (there - I said it) in your pocket, I would address it.

You could send it in, but if it were ME I would actually add just a touch of oil to the lock face. This is NOT generally a good idea for a knife that is working properly. The oil will probably cause the lock to engage later (more than 35%) and will probably make the knife very hard to unlock for awhile (not necessarily a bad thing for a fighter). You can adjust the "over-travel" and sticking by cleaning out the oil and adding graphite to the lock. I know because I accidentally got some oil on my lock and went through this process. Good luck!

My experience is when you over come the lock like that you mar the lock bar face and make it more likely to happen again. I would disassemble the knife, give the damaged surface a couple light raps with a hammer then dimond file down the top of the lock bar a little. Second thought were talking about an expensive knife with a great warranty, just send it in.

I think I am just going to go with it for now, it's not like the lockbar just slides over on its own or anything, it takes a pretty specific set of circumstances to pop. As far as using it for defense... I guess anything can happen, but I will be reaching for the .357 on my belt before I go for the knife in my pocket. If there is still an imminent threat after 5-15 rounds of .357 mag I will probably be running away instead of trying to stab the threat;)

Either way thanks to all for the input!
