0560 Clip Issue

So my 0560 arrived and I do have a lot to say about it. First of all the detent on mine, serial number 9xx, is not too strong at all. Next, the thumb stud opens the knife perfectly as long as only minimal pressure is exerted on the lock bar. Flipper fires it open after a slight pivot adjustment. Blade centering is a little off but should be easily adjusted if/when I feel like it.

The knife is great except for one problem that, if I can't resolve, will make this an unfortunate catch and release. The clip screw heads take up too much of the gap where the pants go, I'd say over 1/3. photo-20.JPG

The screw heads prevent me from putting the knife in my 5.11 pants pocket and I can't even get it in my jeans pocket without a long struggle. Well, I should elaborate, I can get the clip on but only up to the point where the screws hit the pants. Kinda defeating the purpose of the low rider clip.

I searched the forums for any solutions and didn't find anything so if this has been addressed before I apologize.

Thanks.

well judging by your pic your clip is actually bent where it shouldnt be bent. It appears your clip bends in right over the top of the screws. On my clip it is completely straight which gives much more room for your knife to sit you the jeans properly. I would contact kershaw and see if they can send you out a new clip. Or you could remove the clip and try bending it but it might be a PITA.

Wow! I compared it to other pictures on the forum and I think you nailed it right on the head.

Much appreciation.

The box arrived intact so if must have been squished sometime before packaging. I emailed KAI and I'm sure they'll take care of the problem.

I wonder if my XM-18 will see less pocket time.

I have a serial number in the low 800s and my clip looks exactly the same. I ran into the same problem you were having. Guess I am gonna have to bend my clip or give em a call.

Interesting. I emailed KAI but last night I got impatient and tried straightening out the clip. It came out ok but not perfect but stupid me did it late last night and I haven't actually tried it out on pants yet.

My clip got pulled out and won't go back. Had some sweats on and I guess it was too thick with the heads sticking out a bit which is fine. Overall I have to say I am wowed by the fit and finish, although compared to my xm's, the jumping is a tiny but rougher, but no complaints this is an excellent edc and my favorite knife right now actually. Detent was perfect on mine, I can't stop flipping it!!! I actually loved this so much I went and found me an XM! Just a great collab overall and now I am a huge ZT Fan.

I like ZT - they give you five places to put the clip - four on the knife and my choice - in the box. The first thing I do when I get home with a new knife is stow it's clip in it's box - with the screws taped to it. I carry my 0561 like I do other larger knives - in a back pocket. My smaller EDC knives ride in the front pocket with two keys and whatever change I get. I don't know of any legal reason to display a clip on a knife - and I certainly won't grab a knife to defend myself, especially as long as I have something louder and legal in the other front pocket. I guess I just grew up with 'pocket knives' that never had a clip. I can retrieve a back pocket ZT-0561 pretty fast - in an emergency - like finish slicing through a pizza! Gotta admit, I've seen a lot nicer clips on less expensive knives, the machined Ti one on my BM 755 MPR coming to mind. Still... with it's screws taped to it, into the box it went!

Kershaw is pretty good to us - I'm sure ZT will be, as well. I called Kershaw some years back and said my new Leek had stripped one of it's clip screw heads and twisted my USA-made Craftsman Torxx driver. They sent me a couple of clips, sets of screws, and a keychain Torxx driver set - gratis! They'll take care of you.

Have you ever noticed how much better a nice knife feels in the hand, blade out or in, with the clip removed?

Okay, so I tried my "fixed" clip on my pants and still no good. Clip does look better but it's not 100%. I guess I'll have to wait to hear back from Kershaw.

Being that another person has the same issue I wonder if it was a purposeful design change or a QC issue? Although I can't see any benefit so I guess I'm just being stupid.

I had the same problem and there's nothing wrong with my clip. That's just how it is designed.

FRUSTRATIONS MOUNTING

I contacted customer service on Saturday regrding the clip issue I posted earlier. I haven't heard anything yet and I know I should be patient but this knife is just staring at me asking me do to things to it that I just can't yet do. Why? If the clip is not defective then this knife sadly has to go as I just can't get it to clip to my pocket. And, if I'm going to sell it then the less tinkering I do to it the easier that will be (although I really shouldn't have problem because I'm not looking to make a profit). So, I haven't even cut paper with it.

The tinkering I really want to do is to try and center the blade. Easy enough on my Les George and Hinderer's but from everything I have read the blade should always be centered because of the bearings. Maybe there is more of an issue than I can handle. centering.jpg

I also want to take her apart and bend the lockbar a little and see if I can get the detent to hold a little better.

Maybe I should just drop a Hinderer clip on it and forego trying to deep pocket carry?

Why won't they contact me...:dejection:

Why won't they contact me.
Probably because Monday is the busiest day of the week for them, and there are hundreds of warranty requests to process from the weekend. I'm sure they will get to you soon.

Just a crappy picture but it hints at how nice it would look blued.
It would look like this. I think it suits the knife very well.
