Thought it would be cool to have a thread where is someone dressed up their 0560 we could take a look here. FYI if your thinking of doing the same as me ill have you know you dont have to buy a Ti Lock bar stabilizer. The stock one appears to be Ti and colors extremely well with a torch. I simply liked the look of this rounder verssion and I wanted to have a slightly different look. I think its more elegant like the knife. The pictures dont show it very well but the clip has been bronzed. All in all these mods set me back $25. Not bad IMHO.

So If you have modded your 0560/1 lets see what you got.

I like it! Where did you score that stabilizer? Also if one was to color the stock one with a torch, is there any specific procedure? And how do you bronze the clip??

I LOVE my 560, the more I play with it the more I realize what a bargain it is compared to my hinderer xm-24 and xm-18. I actually bought my hinderers after trying out the 560! Just great all around in fit and finish. If I could get my standoffs anodized blue and change the screw and pivot screw to bead blast or anodized I would be all over it! Got a carbon scale on the way that should be sweet! Other than that, the elmax steel has been amazing so far in edge holding, same as or slightly better s30v but that's my opinion. This thing cuts and cuts and keeps an edge! My s30v knives need constant maintenance but this one seems great, the stone wash came out beautiful too! I'm very happy... I think this is a great platform to mod!!

It would be cool if hinderer would make ti stand off's for the 0550's & 0560's like the XM's

LBS looks like Gray Precision from Unique Ti.

Clip can probably be anodized at home. A bench power supply is best but unless you are an amateur radio
nerd or a general electronics nerd and need one you can get bronze with 9V batteries. Bronze is around 18V so if you tie the negative to the positive of two 9V batteries (wired in series) your set. Clean the piece well. Attach the end negative terminal to the piece. The negative here is the anode.. why this is called anodizing. Connect the positive at the far end of your battery chain to a sponge with a bit of salt water. Paint the color on.

Would that work for the titanium lock bar side as well? Bronze that whole side clip and all?

I saw a pretty sweet scale on youtube last night for a 560. Can't remember who did it tho, it was wood and g10.

I contacted them about this and the answer was they would think about it. They are most definitely planning to offer goodies but they said they want to wait for more knives to be released. But things are in the works.

As for the mods done to the knife it was all done with a hand held propane torch. the LBS is in fact the one from unique Ti. The trick to flaming Ti is patience. To get a uniform color you need to heat the piece uniformly. If you try doing it in patches you will get a rainbow effect and you run the risk of overshooting the color.

If you overshoot a color the only way back is to beadblast again and try it over. When heating the frame, LBS or clip the changes happen quickly. Once you actually see the color your trying to shoot for its all ready over and you have overshot it as the piece is still heating up at that point. The trick it uniformly heat whatever item your working and to anticipate the color change and stop right before it. This way if you undershoot it you simply heat it again. The Clip I dont believe is Ti as this was the first and only color shift the item took. In fact it was a risk even doing the clip as some alloys only get ugly with a flame treatment. But I really like how it turned out.

If anyone plans on doing these mods Do make sure you completly disassemble your knife. Also, the LBS heats up VERY VERY fast. With a standard hand held burns -o-matic you will need to apply heat for literally 1/2 to 1 second for a purple or nice blue. Every color that Ti can be colored has its own heat range. You can do it via electricity. I had a power supply and tried that method but I like the artistic abilities of a torch better. I also get better results as this is what Im used to.

There really is no other "secrets" To doing this. If your unsure of yourself I would recommend buying some scrap Ti that is of the same thickness to practice on. Ti bars would work best. Then you simply sand it down if you want to try again. Get good at it before you F up a good knife. Ive done many knives so I wasnt too worried about this. The only other thing I can suggest is to hang the frame from an inverted metal coat hanger. Then use another metal coat hanger that has the hook end through the bottom of the frame so you have control over the piece your working. Nothing is more frustrating then torching a frame that is flopping around due to the power of the flames.

Oh yeah another thing that can be done if your creative is to get one of the smaller jewelers torches that have a very fine thin yet powerful flame. with a very thin flame like that you can Tigerstripe the frame with different colors like you see on high dollar custom striders.

I was wondering about the clip. I didn't think it was Ti but I used a magnet out of a computer harddrive to test and thought it may have just been sticking to the screws after reading this.

Anyone know how to precisely control color on the clip? I assume you can't color the clip with electricity as I've never heard of anyone doing it that way other than maybe through induction heating.

seeing the clip is most likely steel the only real way to color it is either with a torch which you should only get the bronze or you can have it coated. I saw a video where a kershaw employee stated the clip was Ti but then Ive also seen videos where a kershaw employee states that the blade for the ZT boot knife is 154cm. Im starting to wonder if some clips were Ti and then switched to steel.

Volunteers? Anyone want to heat color their 0561 and anodize the Ti bronze? I think bronzed Ti with brown clip and brown G10 would look really nice.

Are you offering to do this for someone or are you asking for someone to do it for you?

I think I just saw the one you're talking about, the stabilized walnut? Not my cup of tea but damn you gotta respect that craftsmanship on that thing!
