Hello all, as I was playing with my 0561 and catching up on all the new sneak peaks, I got to thinking...what did the zt056X series prototype first look like? Was there any changes made after the unveiling and before it hit the market? I've been looking around on the web and can not find any information. Hopefully someone knows a thing or two or an old link that will lead me to some information? Any info at all is greatly appreciated. Thanks BladeForums members!

my 561 and 550 taking a picture in the back of an issue of Blade Magazine!

The cutout for the framelock spring seems to have changed a bit. There's a small, round hole on the prototype in the picture. Mine (ser. 3602) has a pill shaped (think Tylenol) hole. I've NO idea what this does. Any clues?

Probably just different machining processes. The prototype may have been a more "rough" process. Or, the larger cutout could make the lock bar less stiff, maybe the prototype was deemed too stiff.

Very cool thread! Thanks seelow! And yes, all that seems different is the frame lock cutout and pocket clip. But it did answer my questions! So thanks everyone!

Glad I could help. I went through every page of that thread while I was saving up for my 0561. It makes waiting even harder but you have a greater appreciation for the knife when you get it.

Yes, I bet that did help. And it probably did make the wait that much more longer! I appreciate that knife so much, sometimes I have to remind myself to not wear it out. I go through a routine: flip it open, look at it closely, wipe the blade off for fingerprints and/or smudges, and finally let gravity close the blade. I may or may not have a problem.
