.06 RED kydex for trainer sheath?

Hi guys. I'm doing up a couple of red kydex neck sheaths for La Griffe trainers, and the .08 sheet I'm using is a bit heavy for the application (the draw/pull needs to be the same as the .06 black kydex neck sheath for the live La Griffe), and the .08 is just a little too beefy for that lightweight aluminum trainer).

Just for the eye candy factor, here are a couple of pics - there are more in that Flickr album here , if anyone is interested. :)

Anyway, I've looked around the usual sites (texas knife, knifekits.com and interstate plastics) with no luck, and a search here didn't yield any results.

Can someone point me in the right direction, or is .08 the thinnest you can get in that color?

Thanks in advance everybody.

Try this link for Interstate Plastics

http://www.interstateplastics.com/materials/detail.aspx?ID=Kydex-Ca2009

Though they do not show it on the drop down menu, they do have it pictured on the page. I have found that if you call "Bruce", he can search to see if they have it available. The only draw back is that you may have to buy an entire sheet. They will cut it into smaller pieces (12" x 12", or 12" x 24") for more economic shipping which helps out on the price a bit.

IP used to have red listed, but took it down. I'd call or email and ask. Their CS is superb.

Crud. Well, I just talked with Bruce at Interstate Plastics: they don't have red in stock, and they're happy to order it, but there's a 16 sheet minimum order from the factory. That's sixteen 48x96 sheets, folks! Ooof. So, that's not an option for me - I don't think I'd ever use that much kydex (or at least, not that much RED kydex!)

So, any other ideas?

Thanks again for any help.

Ask Kiah about his super secret dye project. :D

I'd hazard a guess that if you can get .06 white kydex you can dye it whatever color you want.

I ain't talkin'. I can make you some red .060, but you'd have to wait till my next order. If you're just using them for trainers, Krylon Fusion is cheap and readilly available.

not to hijack, but why would you want a trainer neck knife? I can understand bali trainers, but fixed blades?

Um... to practice with? Just maybe?

If you're going to practice the draw all the way through the end of the fight you'll want a trainer with a sheath. Probably going to want that sheath a different color so you don't mix it up too.

It is a martial arts thing. The La Griffe is designed as a self defense knife to be worn under one's shirt. It is employed at grappling range. And if you screw up drawing it from under yer shirt whist wrasslin' you can accidentally cut yerself quite badly, as Perrin knives are extremely sharp. So the trainer is for practicing the draw and initial cuts against a non-compliant opponent.

TekSec: thanks much, man. I'll check it out...

nc527: Josh K and tyr_shadowblade hit it on the head! Trainers keep me from cutting off parts I'd rather keep (especially since I have a habit of picking fights with bigger, meaner guys than me!)

I'll update the thread if I'm able to find the elusive .06 red sheet - thanks for all the help guys!
