I've been trying to carry my ZT a bit more lately as it is rather light and slim but one issue about the knife is driving me nuts. In a pinch grip or when I'm choking back on the handle the lock-up is fine, solid as a vault. Lockup in a hammer grip is BAD, the blade has audible and felt blade play. The issue it seems is the lock side scale has been milled a tad short, or the lock bar stands a little proud, and when I squeeze the thin grips my index finger disengages the lock enough for the blade to start moving around. Is this something common? I've heard good things about ZT's warranty, should I be reaching out to them?

I have never experienced that type issue with any of my 770s or any of my ZTs for that matter ...

with blade play and the lock disengaging I think I would contact ZT they have great customer service ... it may just need some adjusting if the pivots loosening but sounds like it might need ZT to have a look.

My 0770CF is solid as a rock when open and locked, no matter how I grip it. No play in any direction, no wobble, nothing.

Same here, I've carried and used mine pretty much continuously since I received it as a gift from a friend here and I've had no issues yet and don't expect any.

Just sent in my 0450FCZDP for bad lockup.

I needed a couple of the screws for the ti pocket-clip on the ZT 0808 and after an email from me, a full set, minus the pivot screw screws were in my hands, no charge to me, within 14 days. From my understanding their warranty work is just as quick and impressive.

I'm another one that can vouch for my 0770cf having no lock up or centering issues after extensive use doing HVAC and electrical work.

You are describing a very common design trait. If the lockbar and opposing scale were flush, it would cause problems for many people to try and disengage the lock (especially for lefties trying to use a right hand design). The ZT may be more pronounced than an emerson or other common liner locks, but Im honestly not sure this is going to be considered a warranty issue based on your description. You say that when you adjust your grip your fingers disengage the lock...thats not a lockup issue, but more likely a size/fit issue. Do you by chance have large or fleshy hands? (Im not trying to be rude, its an honest question....fleshy fingers or palms have a tendency to squeeze into the handle more than small/thin hands). I have a custom knife here with flush scales & liner that several of my friends have a hard time closing because they cant get their thumbs on the lockbar. You may want to have the lockbar cutout sanded/filed to be flush if that is your preference. Or...the knife may be a bit too small for you causing your finger placement to be the catalyst for the issue.

I'm with Rival, I don't think it is a warranty issue. It is just an aspect of the design of a liner lock that is made to be proud for ease of unlocking. I have liner locks from many different manufacturers that exhibit this. You can't really get around the meat of your finger pushing the lock bar in certain grips. Gayle Bradley specifically designed the lock of the Spyderco GB1 to not be proud in order to lessen the chance of accidental unlocking.

Disengaging the lock of my ZT0770CF is very easy without any lock stick.
It is a good thing.

But I can feel the lock bar moving when I grab the handle tight.
Like said above, the flesh of my index finger does push out the lock bar a little.
It is not to the point where the lock is released, but the blade does show a play.
It is the design.

Rival sort of hit the nail on the head. I don't believe I have fleshy hands just yet, curse you desk job, but they are definitely not bony. I have fair strength in my hands from remodeling work and chain maille so definitely some muscle. The lock bar falls perfectly between the joints of my index finger in the softest area. My wife is rather small, five foot tall, with proportional hands and is actually the one to first discover the issue so it isn't just me.
I have been thinking of selling the knife because honestly it isn't my thing but I got two for a great deal because I figured I could pass them on. This one makes me pause though because my options seem to be sell a knife that personally has issues with at least two peoples hands, or fix it either through warranty or hand sanding the liners lower.

I have a Limited Edition ZT 0450FCZDP that I just asked Knife Center to take back from me, and give me credit for another knife. The knife which went on sale May 25th(05/25/2018), has been to ZT once for an issue with lock up and I just received it back today August 2nd (08/02/2018) and it still has the same problem. Note that I did not send it immediately back to ZT.... I had it for a few weeks before I discovered the lock up issue.

I've opened/closed it maybe 25 times, but I'm over it and want to dump it for what I paid.

I had an issue with my 804cf and lockup. I sent it back to ZT and they fixed it better than ever they even responded to my annoying emails asking them about the status of my knife. Awesome customer service.
