Hey guys I was looking around on the coming soon stuff on Bladehq and saw one I cant wait for the ZT 0770cf. I know the original wasn't going to be CF, but I saw one thing that bothered me and I didn't remember from Blade Show, Assisted opening? I didn't remember it being assisted at blade but I also know it has changed since then, it may have been and im just not remembering it. But the Assisted opening might have just killed it for me

I think the videos I saw said it was assisted. I ordered one form kershawguy and it says its speedsafe, I dont have it yet. But it might have a detent so you may be able to un-assit it. People have had luck taking the torsion bar out of the 566. There may be a thread on it here if you search.

I handled it at Blade I just don't remember it be assisted, but again I have horrible memory, hopefully I can deassist it like my blur. I used to love the AO but the more knives I have had without it, the more I prefer to not have it

Thats understandable. I dont mind the speedsafe, but there are times when I would rather open my knife slowly so people don't go bananas

You can safely capture the blade against your palm or pants before it deploys and thus operate in stealth mode. By the way, many good snappy manual flippers also make a noticeable thud sound when deployed fully. Case in point, ZT 0801.

This one SHOULD have a detent hole so you can take out the speedsafe and it will work just fine. My 566 is very smooth without the speedsafe and has a good detent. The 770 Aluminum is out and I'm sure there will be a thread soon with those that have them. I may pick one up but I really want the 770cf like you.

I have one on the way, and will have both. It has indeed been a Speedsafe knife since announcement and will have a detent hole on the blade. Whether or not it works well as a manual will be found out when I get mine in, along with others. The CF version should be the same way.

You got that right. My 801 is a mean lean flipping machine. It opens with so much snap that my wife always yells at me when I am flipping it while watching TV

How's the edge retention on that elmax? And the sharpening difficulty? Not trying to bring up "that YouTube video", but I'm looking for positivefeedback from people on the newer knives.

elmax edge retention is pretty decent, id say just above s35vn, sharpening is the same. I carried elmax for over a year, only replaced for me by b75p

My 566 is wicked sharp from the box and hasn't shown any edge degradation in 5 days of EDC with a ton of package opening and cardboard cutting to see if it would dull.

I know you werent asking me directly but I figured I had a response that was relative. I recently had an elmax knife that needed sharpening from the brand in question and I really did not enjoy the task. I use a edgepro apex and it was a nightmare. It was really really odd too. The edge dulled rather quickly. And it was only used for light cutting tasks. I figured ok well if the steel is soft and dulling fast then it should be relatively easy to put an edge back on it. I was dead wrong. I fought tooth and nail trying to build a burr. I have never in my life seen a steel that lost its edge that quick yet was so resistant to abrasion. It was as if my stones just wouldnt bite the steel. I just had my 0801 reground though so hopefully it exposed some fresh steel and maybe my luck will be better.

From all accounts, Elmax is an imperfect art that either turns out beautifully or kinda mediocre. I feel like perhaps I should wait until it is more extensively established.

I personally have had no problems with the Elmax on my 801. Ive used it alot. Ive cut cardboard zip ties, wood, normally everyday stuff and have had no problems. I give it a strop every now and then and thats all it takes. I havent had to touch it up with my sharpmaker yet, and Ive had it since August.
