Looking at the ZT0450 and the ZT0808 flippers?
I want a small, slim, titanium framelock, that slices well.(no batoning required)
What would recommend?

My preference, and the one I own, is the 0808. While I liked the look of the 0450 better, the 0808 fit in my hand better. Only complaint I have is the pocketclip - just don't like how it looks. Still searching for an aftermarket pocketclip, but happy with my 0808.

I've had both folders. I liked both of them.
HOWEVER, the closed length of the 0450 is 4.125".
The closed length of the ZT 0808 is 4.375".
For me, that makes all the difference in the world. The zt 0450 is just too SHORT for my hand.
The ZT 0808 is okay in my hand and I still own it. I sold the 0450 right away, even though it's a nice flipper.
If you have SMALL hands, then the 0450 is very nice and I would suggest that one. I kept the 0808 although I'm not wild about the shape of the blade...

The blade thickness of the 0808 is 0.160" while the 0450 is only 0.120". For a CASUAL user, like me, I would much prefer the thinner blade-width of the 0450 as it will slice much easier. The thicker blade really is NOT something I can use, but at least I can hold onto the grip...

I like the 0450

I have both. I don't think there's a huge functional difference. It's really a matter of what strikes your fancy. I tend to prefer the 0808.

I also have both. The 808 seems to be a bit more of a workhorse. However, both are excellent!

Just got my first ZT in the mail, check house of blades and see if they have any more 0450CFZDPs, just got mine in the mail and love it
ZDP-189 makes for an excellent slicer from what I hear :D

so light

*note* I have XL hands and love the 0450

I sent you a PM, but honestly I don't think you can go wrong with either. It will come down to the blade shape and your preference on looks.

The 0808 has more handle stock which makes it a bit heavier. But it feels comfortable in hand. The back spacer I believe is made of stainless. I don't have the all Ti 450, but I do have the CF and it is light compared to the 0808. My preference is the 0808, but I wanted the ZDP189 so I got it. It will just take some adjusting to get used to it. Both are great smaller knives.

A common criticism of the 0450 is that it feels too small in hand and it can feel small in hand..

particularly if it's held in a certain fashion with all 4 fingers in the 2 finger grooves/indents. With the outward tail seeming like a pommel.

I think it's supposed to be held with the index on the first groove and only 2 in the second with the pinky over the space of the tail providing an additional resistance support for the forward finger choil.

In pic above, all fingers are within the indented contours with pinky tip just below the clip holes. With all his fingers squished between the two ends. With the pinky, outside the contour, the tip will cover the holes. The grip is more secure & more comfy with 2 in, pinky out. Try it.

As to between the 2, both good,uo to personal aestheti and handle preferences. The 0450 is the more balanced and better slicer. 0808 looks better and a tad nicer. IMO.

I have XL hands and really like my 0450 I have not handled 0808, for what I do office, light field visits the 0450 fits the bill as a EDC but I prefer smaller knifes.

I went with the 808 because I think the handle shape is more forgiving, and I like the lines of the knife. I have not handled the 450, but the 808 scales appear to be a little thicker, with a very pronounced chamfer which gives it some contour in the hand. The 450 (judging by photos) appear to have mostly flat scales with a little slimmer grip. This is not really a deal breaker for me, but the 808 just appealed to me more. Both are excellent knives, so I don't think you can go wrong here.

I'd go with the 0450 series because it's slim, trim and light. Additionally, the blade thickness is only 0.12" so it's a great slicer. You have four choices in the series with the 0450CFZDP being the one to get if you can find one for $240.

Top to bottom:

  • 0450
  • 0450CF
  • 0450SIG
  • 0450CFZDP

0450cfzdp next to a large Inkosi and 940-2

Ridding in my xl hands

Only my pointer, middle, and ring ride on the handle. My pinky doesn't touch the handle at all.

Personally the weight of the CF model makes this a no brainer for me over the 0808. 2.7oz compared to 4.3oz. Hell my Large 3.6" Inkosi only weights 4oz. If I'm going to go 4.3oz Ill carry a 908bk-1501. 3.5" of M4 that is fully capable of any task and will even out preform some fixed blades. Then again I'm the kind of person that will pay $100 to save .5oz. :D

I have both. The 0450 is too cramped for my hand and feels wimpy compared to the 0808 which fits my hand better. However, I prefer the looks of the 0450 by a long shot. In the end I don't really carry either and plan to sell them.

I had a local retail store offer a discount on the 0450 as a display model. At that price I couldn't pass it up. The 808 is a great knife too but I wouldn't pay the extra for it personally. I have no complaints with the 0450 and would buy it again should something happen to this one.

0808, for me.
I looked at, and handled, an 0450...then returned it to the gentleman behind the counter, and never gave the model another thought.

If you wear a medium glove the 0450 will probably work for you. If you wear a large glove the 0450 will probably be to small. The 0808 is more forgiving of hand size as it has a straighter handle.

If weight is at all a factor then the 450 has to be your choice. If the weight does not matter to you, like it does not matter to me, I would go with the 808. Like them both though!
