Wondering if this combo is any good for a grinder? Don't know anything about SCR Controllers, but the price is right.

Don't have much more found on craigs list. Asked about HP and got this. Motor Two: 1.5 208-220/440 Volts.
I see it's 220 instead of 110. I just need to know if these types of controllers will control speed without loosing torque.

No other answers??? The only reason I asked as I believe the SCR Controller only work on certain appliances. Just want someone to either agree or disagree.

If you want a meaningful answer that will help you save $ instead of waste it on incompatible equipment, we need much more info.

ALL the info on the data plates of the motors

The controller specifications.
The controller make and model numbers at a minimum so we can lookup the specifications.
Motors and controllers must be matched with inputs and outputs.

We need much more info.

I believe in general that SCR drives are for DC motors, but lets find out for sure.

I thought so, so I'm going to pass on it. Can't seem to get much info from this guy and it's a long drive to check it out myself.
Thanks for the response.

If you want a general answer, it won't work.
Normal 1.5HP motors won't run on an SRC control. It would need to be an AC motor with brushes ( universal), or DC. You didn't say if the motor you are looking at is 1Ph or 3Ph. Make sure which it is before buying it. 3Ph can be run off a VFD to control speed and torque. 1Ph will need pulleys to change the speed. Torque increases as the speed decreases on a pulley set-up.

Just because the controller won't work for you, don't ignore that motor

"Motor Two: 1.5 208-220/440 Volts."

If that's a 3 phase motor, totally enclosed, of a usable frame size, and such

It's usable with a vfd.

I'll check and see if it might be 3 phase. I'm already running a 1 1/2hp single phase with pulleys. Would be nice to have the speed control. Thanks Stacy and Count.
