I need some old school help for this.
I have what are known to me as two 1/300 shbm’s. The question I have is why do the have different scales? Did these get sold over a long period of time, where they could have switched from the older scale to the newer one? I thought the lighter looking scale that are partially smooth near the slotted bolt was the older of the two. Or did they use both these types of scales at the same time. Is one more valuable than the other ? Or Tyrade83! I bet he would also have the answer!!

Bullpin tracked me down. We've been talking via text, but I figured I'd throw it in here as well.

Generally, the smooth scaled SHBMs were the earliest examples, the ones with partially grooved scales are mid range, then the fully grooved ones are the most recent. But with the old ones there's nothing really set in stone, and there is some overlap.

As to one being more valuable, that really depends on the buyer and what they're looking for. I tend to prefer smooth or partial grooves over fully grooved, because they tend to have more of an ergonomic rounded profile and I find them more comfortable (subjectively) than the more blocky shape of the full groove scales.

Lol. You beat me T. I was just going to spread your great knowledge! Thanks brother !
