Anybody know where I can get a 1/4" countersink with 3/16" pilot? Need it for pivot screws on bolsters and handle slabs. I've used a 1/4" bit but it tends to grab the material and with mycarta it can realy screw up a scale.

Thanks

i neeed to get one of them also
but till then i leave the piece clamped down and run the 3/16 then chuck up a 1/4 end mill and chase the hold to the depth i want
i do that for ll my corby bolts too

Will: You can order them from MSC. For Micarta, you can use a 1/4" reamer.
For bolsters, you can use a 1/4" end mill.
In both cases, clamp your work and use the 3/16" bit to line it up. Then, switch over to the 1/4" tool.

jlindustrial.com, mcmaster.com
I believe Harbor Freight also has them.
A little note: Micarta will eat a countersink faster than I can eat a Hershey's white chocolate hug (HMMMM)! So buy a few cheap ones.

you guys talking countersinks or counterbores??
sounterbore has a staright wal and countersink is tapered for use with flathead screws.

i know pops carries counterbores in those dimensions. and so does enco, mcmaster carr, MSC, wholesale tool, etc

Counter bore, or flat bottom counter sink, for use with pan head screws, I use an 82deg. reamer for flat head screws. I hadn't thought of pop's, I'll have to check on his site.

check em out he's the best. might be pricy compared to the cheap inport ones you can find. but hell i'd rather see the money go to pop

I checked his site, he doesn't list them. I'll give him a call when I get in and see what Pops has got.

Thanks

Sheffield lists 1/4" counterbore (#CBT-1, $20.00) and 3/16" pilot (#PP1, $4.75); 5/32" is #PP3. This is not a step drill. They work very nicely.

i think pops charges about 15 bucks or so for the counterbores.
sheffield has nice ones because they have interchangeable pilots, pops is nice but single task
they're made from 6 flute HSS reamers
