I'm just asking about whether anyone could point me in the direction of some other 1/4" thick knives, similar in size to the bk2 or esee 5, and not more than $140

How about some Ontario Rangers in .250 inch 5160? The Cold Steel Trailmaster and Recon Scout exceed the quarter inch width in SK5. Both can be found for under $150. The new ones in O-1 will likely be higher. Ontario in addition to the Rangers in 5160 make some "spec plus" in the same steel, as well as some 1095. There is also Ontario's Marine Raider bowie in 1095. It's like a more modern version of the old Western 49.

Speaking of Western 49, it makes a great knife if found in good shape for a decent price. I prefer the Carbon steel version over the Stainless in 420HC.

I have a BK2-Ontario RD4-Ontario NS4-Schrade SCHF3- and the Condor Rodan. All are 1/4". Of the pry bars I have the RD4 is the best of the bunch. I do like the NS4, but the slightly curved blade can be a pain to sharpen with my set up. I think the full flat grind works best on big knives. With the Ontario's you get better steel and no plastic grips! Rodan is nice, but the solid fixed grip seems to be really fat at times. I ground mine down a bit.

Another good budget pry bar is the Cold Steel GI Tanto. Under $30 and nothing but rave reviews. I have never owned one, so I can't comment on it.

Lots of options from Ontario. My favorite is the Marine Raider Bowie. It looks a little cartoonish until you pick it up and use it. If I'm stuck in the Woods with just one knife, this is the one I want with me.

Oh, this one is not quite 1/4 but it's plenty thick. If you want stainless steel and high quality. Check out the Limited Edition Buck Frontiersman. I picked one up on a whim for $120 plus tax. This thing is absolutely beautiful! Fit and finish is perfect.
When I got it home I could not believe how nice it was so I started doing a little research and it turns out since these are limited runs Buck decided to make all of them in their customer shop. Black Linen Micarta and Beautiful stainless blade with flawless execution.
Can't beat it for $120!

Go hand made. Yup Ray Ennis at Entrek knives makes a bunch of thick choppy stuff near your price point.

As long as you get the Ontario Ranger with the snaps. My NS4 has the velcro and I am looking for a fix.
