BD Vipers... old model... and Charlet Moser M10s? I can live with that... HOWEVER... leashless rules! XD XD Just kidding. I ditched them long ago but I do use tethers... I don't want my tools flying away from my 300feet of the ground.

And I do feel your pain. I am just back from a 9 day trip which was supposed to the a once in a lifetime ice climbing madness along the Pirinees... Instead we drove like 1650kms and climbed a single 60m pitch (WI4). Ice was so crappy that we just abseiled down from a belay station on the rock... and kept on driving (Gavarnie, check it out). We did our share of snow and mixed climbing... but no pure ice pitches. Shame.

Winter is not over yet so we will keep on trying.

Old..Ha Ha I just sold my BD Black Prophets last season
300' ice climb dang.. I have never even seen a climb that long/high. The tools have leashes on them I would not let my wife go with out them.
The ice is gone now but the weather is going to be back in the negatives this week so maybe we will get another chance.
Thanks

This is Gavarnie. Small village on the North Face of the Pirinees (France). The end of the Valley looks like this. There are three main climbing zones. First Stage, routes going from WI3+ to WI6 from 200m to 400m. The Second Stage, routes a bit shorter, usually better ice (they are at a higher altitude) and anywhere between WI4 to WI5 and the longuest is another 200m. Third stage is only for a few selected people, all the routes require starting with one or two pitches of overhanging dry tooling (aid climbing if you like) and then you get WI5 and above for another 3-4 pitches.

Not a beginers place as you can imagine!

Thats me on the first pitch of one of the routes in the First Stage. As you can see, there is not much ice. And there was wáter running under it. Need to come back in a couple weeks (5h driving from my city)
