Hi. I'm looking to purchase either the Jeff White Bush Knife or the Bush Knife HD. The only difference between the blades is that the former has a 1/8 inch blade while the latter has a 3/16 inch blade. The latter also costs 70 bucks more. I'm having a heard time justifying the extra money, but also don't want to end up being bugged by the possibility that I gave myself a disadvantage by getting the thinner blade.
This knife is going to be a general camping, hiking, and outdoor knife. I keep a hatchet with me while doing all of that, but would like the knife to be able to stand up to batoning should I lose, break, or forget the hatchet.
I am not a knowledgeable knife guy, so forgive the stupid questions, but what exactly will the extra 1.5 millimeters do for me? It doesn't support the edge, does it? I Will not under any circumstances be using this as a pry bar, and even if I did, would the fact that it is a pretty wide blade help strengthen the blade and help negate the consequences of a thinner blade? And how is a thicker blade better for knocking it straight through a piece wood with another piece of wood?
I will be getting the convex grind on it.
Thanks in advance.
