1" belt on 2" sander?

I purchased a 2x42 craftsman sander. I am looking at belts in higher grits and a leather belt but only find these in the 1x42 size. Is it possible/safe to use 1" belts on a 2" pulley? I'm assuming it would self center but just wanted to check. And no I don't wanna go buy a 1" sander if possible.

Yes, you can use 1" belts with it. I don't know where you can buy a 2x42 leather belt but supergrit.com has the best prices and selection that I've seen for all other belts. They have 2X42 wool felt if you want to polish w/ compound. They also have the full grit range of 2x42 3M micron belts, my favorite for convexing. For flat bevels, I like Trizacts. Supergrit has those too.
