hi,guys,i have a question to ask, i found a 1st gen.native that i would like to buy,it has the frn black handles with VG-10 steel its new in the old spyderco white box and paper work inside,i would like to add this to my collection but have no idea what i should pay for it! the seller is asking $70. for it shipped, i'm thinking this knife would be a good collecter's piece! but have no idea of a good price range for it!what do you think, should i pass or buy! thank you for any input you may have.:rolleyes:

Where are you buying it?
As far as I know the Gen 1 Native had Gin-1 steel, then upgraded to 440V, then to S30V.
The only VG-10 steel version was a forum exclusive with a blue handle and good luck finding one of those for 70 beans.

Sounds like a blade swap possibly. At that point I would spend your money on a new lightweight version and have a much better steel and a more refined knife

sorry it is Gin-1 steel and not VG-10,i have 3 other natives and would love to add another to the collection, think its worth the 70. !

If you're into collecting variants of the Native, the GIN-1 version is worth having although, technically, its the 2nd Generation of the Native Lightweight. The "1st Generation" was the 440A version that Spyderco disowned and most collectors shun. See this page for more info on that.
