Something happened today that made me think.

2 words. WOUNDED WARRIOR.

It would be good if, as a group we could pledge......
ONE PENNY per BUSSE FORUM POST

to go to this charity.

As a way to celebrate and honor the moment, by helping our American heroes.

To the Wounded Warrior Project? I hope you're talking about another charity because I don't think WWP donors would care for how they have been spending their donations.

Great gesture, not so great of an organization based on what I've seen in their dealing with fellow veterans.

If there is some other WOUNDED WARRIOR charity, I don't know anything about it.

YES, Wounded Warrior Project. That is what I meant. Again the only folks I know who go by this name.

I wondered if it would be possible to send donations to Busse, on behalf of the MILLIONTH POST, then have one check sent on behalf of everybody.

There are probably a lot of reasons why it will never work. That is usually how my ideas go.

If there is a better charity...somebody name it. How about the Special Ops Soldiers? What matters is representing the group in a way that honors the moment.

I just didn't want to make any assumptions, that's all.

How about the SPECIAL OPERATIONS WARRIOR FOUNDATION? POW/MIA?

If someone has a better charity, just name it. The

No feelings will be hurt.

whats wrong with WWP ? is it like what the red cross disaster relief fund did with hurricane katrina ? I think they had like 1 billion donated and only gave out 200 million. As well as 9/11 when they only gave out about 130 million and kept yet another billion.

I'd rather not discuss it here. The OP is trying to do something positive and I don't want to derail this thread any further.

I will. WWP gives only a very tiny fraction of donations to the.people they claim to be trying to help. There are other rumors about them that makes that seem good by comparison. There are other, better veterans charities.

Edit to add: this is not meant to discourage anyone, only a caution to be careful where you donate. My dad served and I can't stand to see people take advantage of others, especially in the name of helping vets.

Ty, Sir. for the heads up.

Gentlemen,

There is a lot about world events I don't know about. My life has become a "4walls" sort of deal.

To avoid trouble let's do this.....decide whether the idea has legs.

If it looks do-able, then we can make a short list of acceptable charities, and then vote. Maybe divide whatever is available to several good outfits.

Third, I was not enough of a man to join any national service. It is one of my gravest regrets. One I will never live down. I have been around service members my whole life from every branch of service. And at one point had a small job among them. Although I have not seen any of my good friends that I made then, I valued those friendships dearly.

Any person who has served our country deserves more than what they recieve, and they are given damn little during and after their service. It has continued to dwindle yearly, from vet benefits to the greenest recruits.

That is all I have to say about that.

Over the years I have been shut out of different forum threads from time to time. It's not a good feeling. ANYBODY who has a measured well-mannered thought opinion or gripe is welcome to add his bit in any thread I start.

I appreciate the guidance on this issue. Let us scratch all groups from consideration at this time. We can decide that later.

Hell, I would be ok if it was sent to Coronado for a "one time only beer party".

As long as whomever is involves agrees, and good people benefit.

There you go. Maybe this is already too fouled up to have a chance.

Well I feel like the thought was nice, but damn this thread went to hell in a hand basket.. Quick. LOL

Shane, don't let this thread derail your good intentions. If you are passionate about the Wounded Warrior Project, or any other charity for that matter, then don't let this thread sway your decision. I have donated money to the WWP in the past, and I likely will again in the future. My wife and I donate to several different charities throughout the year that are important to us, all for personal reasons. I don't typically sign up for "group" donations like this, but again it's a personal thing. If you feel like giving back, then you should, regardless if others are going to or not. Every little bit does in fact help, and the more people that are willing to support charities the better; it all helps to make the world a better place.

Shane I applaud the thought for what you want to do. That is very honorable of you. Like you though, I had no idea what the Wounded Warrior Project was doing. I am a disabled vet but there are others out there far worse off than me. So I take nothing from them and never have. I only try and give to them instead for I am blessed with my businesses and finances. Over the last few years the WWP has lost their way and started to turn into any other money hungry corporation. Honestly they started off as a real down to earth charity that has gotten more than a few dollars from me and my vet friends. I was appalled when I learned of their current behavior. It was a slap in the face honestly. Like you I though they were the real deal. Now greed has gotten the best of them as it typically does with every charity over time. Money corrupts and these people are do different. It is a real shame the path they are on. Until they do some restructuring and get a new CEO, it is going to be like that. All we can do is make decision as to if we want to support something like that. Unfortunately most charities end up only giving a small portion to the people in need. Thank you Shane for your thoughts and wanting to do something to make a difference. That makes you an honorable man and makes you stand apart from the crowd. As a wounded warrior I thank you for the thoughts and energy that you have put forth in this. As Zmbhntr says, don't let this deter you because people like you do make the world a better place.
