1 Mistress, 0 hedge

These photinias have rankled me for years, and with the advent of my Battle Mistress their fate was sealed…

Here's the hedge intact from when I bought the place in 05:

Over the years they got big and scraggly, and developed some fungus; according to our nursery they simply don't belong here climate wise.

I used to do this with an axe, meaning I chopped off the shrub at the roots, and then had to go in and try to separate the tangled branches with loppers and small saws, which is a real hassle. Now I go the other way, starting with as high as I can reach and working down. The stumps get removed by axe, which is cheap to replace :) Great exercise, btw!

Dang I just paid xxxxxx to get rid of my neighbors:eek:

I wish you were closer and we had talked....

Just planted 12 leylands and ordered 15 more 10-12fters, 10 reds tips 6ft, 6 oaks. And 3I willows for drainfield :D
