Finally finished this folder up yesterday, what do you think?

Matching Mosaic damascus blade, bolster and thumbstub. Buffalo horn scales with gold plated screws and vine file worked back spacer. The ti liners are heat colored a multiple aray of colors. I was going for blue/purple but liked to added golds and copper look also, so I pulled it from the furnace before they could change.

Thanks,

Bill

Bill,That knife is just plain ugly.I think you should put it in a box and sent it to me to dispose of for you.
Seriously, that is one nice folder.Did you make the steel?

Thanks guys,

Stacy, I'll see if I can find a box the right size. ;) yes I made the steel.

A lot of the folders I see these days are way to busy. To me, this has just the rite amount of glitz with contrast from the buffhorn handle. Beautiful:thumbup: Fred

Bill, I thought you went full time hunter. Nice to see you getting a knife made. I think the buffalo scales pull it all together. Nice Job!

Nice job Bill.
personaly I think the steel makes the man,
at least makes his arm bigger:D
 nice

Very nice, Bill

When you heat color ti, how do you know when to remove it from the heat for a certain color? Does is glow red like steel?

I've noticed that to get browns, in steel, you have to take the heat away when it shows a slight red. And for blues I take it up to a full glowing red.

Thanks and your mosaics are looking really good.

Great looking knife Bill. I really like the steel. So when are you going to have any more for sale? I used up those star bolsters which came out great!
Regards,
Chuck

Thanks everyone for the nice words, I do appreciate them all, helps keep the knifemaking juices flowing.

Ray, I did hit the huntin pretty hard, but I've been making knives all along, they've just been orders so I didn't take time to make pictures to post them. My picture taking takes up a lot more time then I wished it did and during huntin season I didn't have the time for huntin, making knives and pictures too. :D When you going to get that new shop construction going?

Kelly, when I heat color ti, if I want a yellow/gold I set the oven at 1000 and after its heated evenly I place the liners in, they must be hanging well up off the floor and not touching anything and in the center of the furnace, so I usually run a small rod through the pivot holes, make sure their clean and have no finger prints or oil. Usually it takes about 10 minutes at 1000 for the yellow /gold, but this can vary from oven to oven and the thickness of the ti your using, so after a few minutes I keep checking them and watch for the colors I want, if I want purple/blue I heat the furnace to 1200 and then keep checking every couple minutes or so.
Heat coloring is more a time temp thing, so if you can figure out a good color, time needed to achieve it at a certain temp you'll get a better even color then just trying to heat with a torch. In my experience anyway.

Chuck, I might have something made up here in a couple more weeks, I'll shoot you an e-mail when I get something available.

Thanks,

Bill

Fantastic Bill. I've gotta agree with Fred as well. Your folders have just the right amount of jazz without being gaudy. Great knife!

Bill, Think I'll start the shop when it stops raining in August. I've been starting to feel like a pissant....... :D
