This was my only knife purchase yesterday at the Pasadena knife show. I think it's pretty unique and one that I'll definatly keep. One of only one made, it was supposed to be for the best exibit by a youth but didn't get awarded. I need to get Bruce Dollenger to explain the situation to me again so I have the facts straight, but Bruce got to sell it with the procedes going to the BCCI. It came in a black Limited Edition box with just a plain white label that simply says, "Maple Burl Youth Award", no numbers or anything else.

I hope to get some better pictures taken, the lights gone (raining here again) and I've got a case of the coffee jitters going. :D

Dave, a handsome bare butt model . When you obtain the rest of the story I'd like to hear it . DM

Dave, I thought it was said in the past that a depression had to be made to accept the thumb button on the 110. Can you take a picture of it closed?

Very nice indeed Dave, I like the mirror polished blade.

Same question as edbeau, can you work the thumbstud easily?

Not that it matters much, that ones for lookin at:D

I can do that tomorrow. I can't open it with the thumbstud. The spring is jjust too strong for me but maybe others can do it.

Nope, see the above answer. It looks cool thiough, but I just don't think the 110 was designed with that method of opening in mind. I know that the 486's I have open very easily with the stud but the spring doesn't feel nearly as strong as the 110's.

So its a 110 frame with no rear bolster and a 486 blade all mirror polished? Was it a special build out just for the show or based on a LE BCCI knife?

Where is the picture, Dave?

Dang! I forgot all about that. Sorry, I will do that in the morning when I have the light for it.

Acccording to Bruce Dollinger, it was a one off, built specificly for the Youth Award. The frame, handle design and scale material does look like one of the Limited Edition Boone and Crockett 110's but with NS bolster's and no emblem in the scale.

What ever it is, it sure is a sweet looking knife. I think they should make that a option for the custom shop!

Sorry for the delay ed, but here they are. I've e-mailed Bruce and asked him to send me the full history of the knife. I'm a bit foggy about the details, so when he gets back to me I'll post them.

It seems that a while back, Eric posted a picture of a knife that he did and he put a divit so the thumbstud could be used. A 112 doesn't need the divit when you put in a 400 series blade but the 110 does. It is still a great looking knife.

Bruce got back to me and this is the story on the knife. I have no idea what the other knife he mentioned was.

"The Youth Award Knife was made for the 2010 Atlanta Blade Show for the BCCI. There were several youth members that were supposed to display their Buck Knife collection's but unexpectedly none of them were able to attend. I attribute this to the fact that last years show was in May instead of June and most of the youngsters were still in school (like my Grandson).
At the end of the show Joe Houser had two Award Knives left over - The Youth and First Time Display. Joe took the knives back to Buck and polished the award etching off the blades and then provided them to me to help defray some of the show costs. The award knives were fitted with a different style blade to add to their uniqueness."

Wow, if there was an award etching on the blade, Joe did one hell of a good job taking it off! I can't see a trace of anything ever being on the blade.

I believe that this Boone & Crockett model frame and handle material was the basis for the Youth Award knife (except for the bolsters being different material).
