I was just at my local knife store looking for a new multi-tool, and I saw the new Shallot 1840. ON the BLADE it said; 1 of 500, does anybody know if that means that that knife is the 1st one made of 500? Or does it mean that it is randomly one of the five hundred knives that were were produced in that run?
Also I looked at two other Shallots and they had NO MARKINGS on the blade at all!!

If it is the first one of 500 Is it a collectors item?? If it is they are holding it for me for today and I will buy it. Other wise I will hold off as I plan on buying the RAM first.

Oooogh, I think I'm coming down with the Kershaw bug! :)

What SV said.

If it was serialized it would have been written something like this:

" #028 of 500 " or in your case " 001 of 500 "

Probably would contain a certificate etc...

But it does mean it was in the batch of the 1st 500pcs that ever left the factory.
Kinda like "First Production Run".

Does the "1 of 500" on the blade make it collectable?

Two other Shallots had no markings on the blade.

You would think it would be more collectible...I'd assume that means it's from the first run, but don't really know. I wouldn't think it would make it less collectible...:D

Ok, I kinda thought so. That makes sense. Thanks SV and 2brothers !

Usually I wait until the first production run is all sold out, I'd rather have a plain blank blade.

With some of the less common models the "1 of 500" marked knives can stick around for years.
Sometimes it gets annoying.

Just my opinion.

Well I bought it. I wanted a frame lock any way, never had one before.
This is an excellent knife! It is tight with no play anywhere, the blade fires with authority, and very smoothly, locks up tight, unlocks with ease. It fits my hand well due to the larger size handle (compared to a Leek) And this is the sharpest knife out of the box I have ever had!
I hardly notice it as it sits in my back pocket. I like the slimness of this knife, it is a good choice for anyone who doesn't like to carry a bulky knife in their pocket, plus without the clip it will be even slimmer.

This will become one of my favorite knives I'm sure.
I highly recommend it!

Glad to hear you got one you really like...enjoy! ;)

My wife and wallet both believe I have way too many Kershaw's that I really like, the Shallot included...:D
