You guys are always talking exactly what the best this or that to carry is, I'll pose a similar question:

Situation:
You will spend 7 days/nights in triple canopy jungle. Multi-hour boat-ride from any sort of town. You will shelter in a very small village, sharing a thatch/bamboo hut with the locals. You will stay in this village or its vicinity the entire time. There is no store, concrete building, road or electricity in this village.

You're food will be a combination of what you bring and what they share with you. Or what you can harvest, catch, etc.

The village is situated right next to a very large river-your main water source.

After 7 days, the canoe comes back to pick you up and take you back to civilization (this isn't a survival situation).

You are allowed to carry 1 backpack and 1 small fanny pack or small belt pouch. Backpack capacity is 2,500 cu in.

QUESTION:
What gear do you bring to get you through the week as comfortably as possible, given the space constraints?

If you haven't used a Trek Light hammock you need to check them out.

I own three myself!

Look at the double-sized ones, they're awesome.

They even have tarps and bug nets that pack in their own attached little stuff sacks.

Hammock
Poncho
Mos netting (good stuff)
FAK
ASK
Machete 18"
Belt knife 5"
Small knife (necker)
Jungle boots (good kind)
Water tabs + filter system
Canteen
Canteen cup
Canteen cover
Fast dry clothing (pick your poison) 2 full sets
Paracord 100'
Boonie hat
Bic lighter x3 and a firesteel
7 Clif bars and dry pack food (romens, YMMV)

That's all I got, others will have better lists, I'm sure.

Read the first post a little too quickly. Sorry, disregard my suggestion. :foot:

Like you guys know anything about the jungle:rolleyes:

Thus the reason us idiots be excluded. I've got to go. Antoine is waiting for me to bring more Thunderbird up. We be partying tonight.

Small can of bug dope.
Are you responsible for your own medical needs? If so take appropriate medical supplies for most any problems you can wrap up. Including stitch kit...

Moose has a very good list and frankly I wouldn't have too much to add . These would be my essentials....

Machete
Medium knife (esee 4 or similar)
Multitool
Altima Jungle Boots
Extra socks
Canteen system (including cup with the folding arms)
Moleskin
Snakehook (LOL, sorry, my hobby)
Antifungal cream
Waterproof camera (Lumix DMC-TS2 for example)
Decent output flashlight (ex: olight m20)
Normal output flashlight (something using AA or AAA)
Headlamp and a backup headlamp
Batteries - Don't rely on getting them in country!!!!
Write-in-rain notebook
Magnesium/Ferrorod combo
Eagle Outfiters or similar backpacking hammock, cover, mosquito net combo
Hot weather / quick drying clothes
Cordage!

Edit: Water tablets!!!!!!!!

Sounds like if your going to be fishing, a small fishing kit would be a good idea too. Depending on the political climate of where you are going consider E&E kit. Also find out the laws before you go. Sounds like an AWESOME trip!!!!!
