1" x 30" Felt Belt -> Testers needed!

Hey all,

I'm not a knife maker myself (though I'd love to get into it!), but I do work for an abrasives manufacture that sells many products specifically for knife making. We periodically bring in new materials to test out, and I'm in need of some people to test out a 1" x 30" "felt-belt" that would be used right before your final finishing, whether that be a leather strop or stone.

The minimal testing we've done so far indicates that this belt holds compound very well (we've used white), and will fall somewhere in your sequence between an 800 grit belt and whatever you use for your final step.

All I'm asking in return is just your feedback! I'm happy shipping this to you at no cost in return for your time testing this out (within the United States). Feel free to get a hold of me through here to work out the minor details of your address and whatnot.

This is actually my first post here, so if it belongs in a different section, moderators feel free to move it! There's a ton of good information here that I'm learning.

Best,

-Andy

Are you planning on doing any other belt sizers. Most of us use 2x72” grinders for just about every stage. You do see 1x30 sanders used but 99.9% of the time it’s by people brand new to this and thy picked up a cheap sander from HF. I would be interested in testing a 2x72 if you had one.

I have to agree with JT. If you want to sell belts to knife makers, you need to make them 2x72".

I would also be willing to test out the felt belt for the 1x30 and giving feedback. Just let me know the best way to contact you directly.

I use my modified 1x30 for all my sharpening. I would be interested in the test of one of these belts.

Thanks for the responses everyone! I actually have 2 of these belts in a 2" x 72" size, so I'll contact the first couple people who responded first. I'll get more produced shortly here, and I'll also message everyone interested in the 1" x 30" belts.

Thanks again,

-Andy

I'm interested in the 2x72 size when they become available

I’ve got a 1x30 and would be happy to test.

I am going to test one and will post my review when it comes and gets some testing.

Thanks Stacy! The very minor research we've done so far indicates it may be beneficial to run this belt at a slower speed if you have a variable speed machine, but at this point we're looking for all and any feedback on it. Thanks again. -Andy

Sent you an email

Will it let you use your grinder like a buffer?

Basically! You'd put this belt on just like any other 2" x 72" (or whatever size) abrasives belt. I hope that answers your question. Again I'm not a knife maker, but I'm sure if you had some technical questions the fine folks here would be able to help.

Thanks everyone who's been in contact with me. More 2" x 72" belts are in production as we speak and I anticipate them to be done early next week. I'll get in touch with everyone who inquired about that size to get shipping addresses when complete. Thanks again! -Andy
