My Xarilk gen 3 came last night. I got it off of amazon with the c-clamp to hold it down and the extra 6 stones. The 3 stones that come with the sharpening system stock are on an aluminum base and are fine, but they wear out quick according to reviews. The other 6 are just media on a plastic base they totally suck. The base flexes just from the spring pressure the stone holder has to hold them on and it makes your edges all wavy. I sharpened a couple blades using just the original 3 and it works great.

What is a good source for stones for these systems? The usual suspects seem to be out of stock for most of their stuff now. One youtuber who seems to know his stuff links a RUIXIN set on amazon but it's $40 bucks for an assortment of 10 grits of diamond stones, how good can that really be? Other end of the spectrum is Hapstone/TSProf sources that are out of everything except some super high dollar options. Is there nothing good in the middle left available anywhere? What am I missing?

Don't know what to tell you. All of mine came from Gritomatic. Really awesome stuff. I haven't checked with them lately, but I can imagine they are pressed.

Personally I'd avoid the China-sourced stones. I have some, and they are useless garbage. If you like diamond plates, the China version of those might be OK by accounts I've read. Personally, I strongly prefer stones to plates for anything but raising slurry or maybe sharpening the discs on my meat grinder.

Yes Gritomatic is the same story, not much in stock.

TSPROF sells stones on their site. Their Alpha series stones are really good.

I'm sure they would sell me some if they had any. Look at their site. They list 18 Alpha items. They have 1 of them in stock. They have a set of Venevs I could have for $432. That's the extent of what they have right now unless I'm missing something.

Congress Tool sells Mold Master stones in 1" x 6" and they are very reasonable. You would have to get a plate from a company like Edge Pro to mount them. That is what I did as I have an EP system. It is a US company.

I apologize for the bad info. I was getting a couple .5" stones a couple of weeks ago, and they had decent stock. I see that Bladegallery has a lot Edge Pro stones in stock. I'm not familiar with EP's stones. Neither am I familiar with our rules, so I hope it's ok that I say that.

Along with the idea of mounting the Congress stones you can get blanks for mounting them from Gritomatic.

The stock stones are probably Alox, so if you are looking to sharpen higher carbide steels and don't want / need diamond (or out of your budget) I would look at the Boride HD series. Those stones are SiC so are kind of a middle ground from the Alox stones and the diamond stuff.

Currently saving my pennies for a set of D Diemaker EdgePro Matrix Stones.
