SO, I joined the Bladeforums community around this time last year and after some deliberation chose my first new knife in some time to be the white FRN Spyderco Endura 4. I have to say, this knife far exceeded my expectations even with my knowledge that Spyderco makes quality products.
The Endura lockback design initially did not appeal to me as I was more of a fan of linerlocks at the time. However, I quickly became accustomed to it and realized that when people borrowed my knife they didn't have much of that "Umm, how do I close it?" problem that we're so familiar with. Also, lockup has remained solid the entire time I have had it with no problems.
I love the FRN handles. I didn't have any doubt that they were good material to begin with however there are seriously only a few scratches where some idiot used my knife as a bottle opener (idiot being me) and some dings from dropping it occasionally.
Clip worked out quite well. Bent it once, bent it back. No problem. Loosened once, tightened it. No problem.

I have to say now that I have experienced knives with a full flat or hollow grind I really prefer it for an EDC knife. That being said, the Endura SHINES as a work knife. Light, sharp, good steel, sharpens readily, and holds a fine edge. It was only after I made this my "beater" knife that I truly came to understand just how tough and versatile this knife really is. The saber grind and reinforced tip are really key here. You would be surprised how much abuse this knife is capable of taking. Will definitely be buying the serrated version for its replacement someday.

Kudos to you Spyderco. I knew coming in that the Endura/Delica duo is the all-time best seller and I really think it is an all-around excellent design. I realize I am preaching to the choir here at Bladeforums, but with all the attention some other designs have been getting lately, I figured a shout-out was deserved for my knife.

Good post and I agree the Endura and Delica series is one of the best bang for the buck ever.

Mmm... will have to post a pic when I get back to Dallas (visiting the folks), but I can say that my knife is UGLY lol. I hand sharpen it and the mistakes of the learning curve are clearly evident.
I must say that this knife has been almost entirely maintenance free. It has been used for hunting, fishing, food prep, tearing down boxes, cutting birthday cake, and at the river. Only thing it hasn't seen is the ocean. I just put some 3 in 1 oil on the hinge every once in a while and leave it alone basically. VG-10 is awesome stuff.

The Endura 4 in any configuration is one of the best "lifetime knives", in my opinion. Get one, and you might never have to buy another knife again. (The horror! :D)

That's what I do. 3-in-1, a little touch up on a fine stone, and it's still goin' strong.

The first Endura I bought was an E4, serrated, and it won me over to serrations. (I had no use for them before that.) I have a waved E4 plain edge, and the serrated; they're kind of a 'matched set'.

I need to look at the Delicas next. I just haven't made the time.

Here's something you can do to make an Endura kinda neat.

The pic is old. It now has the holes filled with ground down dummy screws.

I agree with, well, everyone! I finally bought an Endura a little over a year ago and it has become my favorite EDC, over several Kershaws (which I still absolutely love)and a couple of BMs. It is an excellent all around performer that doesn't come close to breaking the bank. I especially love the VG10 blade. I just love VG10 in general, but Spyderco does it better than anyone else, except for MAYBE Fallkniven, and those are fixed blades. I always stayed away from the Endura because of the FRN handles, but with the steel frame it is excellent. Now I need to get myself one of the flat ground blades!

i have several Endura's and man they are great, I bought two of about every model. Love the White it is a must have in my book.

Well well well, was rummaging through my fathers garage today (the females of the tribe are attempting to invade its sacred space by storing "antiques" and "school supplies") and what do I come across? A Spyderco Sharpmaker.
And I mean an OLD one. No brown rods to be seen, only one sharpening angle, no safety guards or cover. Just a set of fine stones and what LOOKS like a 40 degree angle. I have to say, the old Endura is nice and sharp now and I am fairly impressed with my little find. I might just buy one for myself, though I am slightly determined to get better at freehand... Nice surprise though:)

I got my first Endura about two months ago and I almost EDC it everyday.

I really enjoy the way the handle just melts into your hand.

I got my first Endura and Delica back in the early-mid nineties - both are Gen 1 models with the integrated clips. I've used, abused, and loved those knives more than any other I've ever had - except for possibly my first knife as a child (a Camillus Cub Scout). Unfortunately, I snapped the blade of my Endura several years back - my fault, not the knife's - so it has been "retired with honors". Thinking about replacing it with a Pacific Salt.

Bought dozens of Spydies since then, but these are my workhorses...
