Is there anyway to mod a 10/22 so that the bolt locks back after your mag is empty?
i know you can buy kits for it but I would rather do it myself if possible.
Thanks,

I'm not sure about the bolt automatically locking back on an empty mag. I think that would require some little pin or extension into the mag well to get pushed by the magazine follower. Sounds complicated, iffy, and not really worth the hassle since it's so easy to pull the bolt back anyway (not like racking the slide of an old, worn 1911 with cold hands).

I'm thinking you really mean having a locked-back bolt release by pulling back on the bolt and not having to fiddle with the bolt release by the trigger guard. This is much more useful, and pretty easy. There are several different ways to modify the factory plate yourself, so try googling "modify 10/22 bolt lock" (without the quote marks). You can pick what you want to try and feel best about.

Good luck

I've read that there is a mod to do it, but it also needs modifications to the magazine. so you're limited to the 10 round mag, which you need to send in to get adapted.

Sadly, this is the only way that I know of. It will require modification to each individual mag that you use.

Lack of bolt hold back is my one beef with the 10/22 and in the scheme of things it is minor for me.
