Contact a local Class III dealer and he should be able to walk you through the steps. You need to have the serial number off of the suppressor your purchasing before you can send in your form 4's.

A quick search and I was able to find three dealers. One in Denver, one in Longmont, and one in Kim, CO. I found those on this site: http://www.americangunshows.com/DealersClass3/Class3.htm

Good luck.

In my own research of .22 lr suppressors, I never saw much love for GemTech. I'm not sure if that's purely due to an inferior product, or the much debated "Gem Tax" incident.

If I were you, I'd look in the direction of an SWR Spectre. It's entirely stainless steel, which means oodles of durability. It's a multi caliber suppressor, capable of handling .22 lr, .22 mag, .17 HM2, .17 HMR, & 5.7x28. Most importantly, it's a take apart can, so you can actually get inside the thing to clean it. .22 lr is very dirty. Lead will vaporized and deposited on the walls and baffles of a can with every shot. Do you really want to send it back to the factory to have it cleaned?

About the two biggest downsides I can see are weight and expense. I can deal with either.

so i would have to email gemtech to get a serial number?
i would just have to find a class 3 dealer then?

First off, that's a sweet little rifle. Nice job.

Second off, is it practical to stick an expensive suppressor on anything that is not sub-sonic?

The last time I went through the process is went like this:
Who ever is currently in posession of the supressor needs to give you the paperwork with their portion filled out and you pay them at this time. Next you need your local law enforcement to sign the paperwork (they will fingerprint you). Next you send the paperwork with your fingerprint cards, two pics of yourself, and $200 to BATF. FBI will file your fingerprints and BATF will do background check. Next you wait and the paperwork will come back to the person that is in posession of the supressor. They will call you and you can take posession.

One word of advice...get at least two sets of prints taken in case they bounce one set for quality of the prints. If that happens you have to resubmit new prints and the wait starts all over again. Always send them both sets with the initial application just in case.

Oddly enough in Indiana you have to pay to be printed for a CCW but not for class III...go figure...lol.

Whitleystu pretty much summed it up. You won't be able to purchase directly from Gemtech or any other manufacturer. Find a dealer near you to see what is available.

A couple of places to look to see what prices are reasonable are subguns.com and http://www.sturmgewehr.com/. Silencertests.com is a good resource to compare different brands and models.

I have no affiliation with any of those sites and as with any online resource you should use your own judgement to make your final decision.

Also worthy of note; If the suppressor is transfered to a trust or corporation, (as opposed to an individual,) you can bypass the photos, fingerprints, and CLEO sign off. An additional benefit of registering it to a corporation is that other members of the corporation can physically possess it.
