10/22 target stock

Butler Creek, Hogue Overmolded, Bell and Carson, there are tons out there, just Google 10/22 stocks. Of the ones I did list I do like the Hogue Overmolded Stock. It is a cushioned rubber over a fiberglass core, lightweight, non-slip, very durable. My personal preference in for laminated wood but I have built up several on the Hogue stock. The Hogue should run well under 100 bucks as well.

my next build in a 10/22 will be done utilizing the Nordic Components receiver chassis so I can utilize AR stocks and free float fore end, should be another fun build.

Not necessarily, to free float you still have insure there is no contact between the barrel and stock forward of the receiver.

My Hogue overmold stock is basically free floated, I checked it with a dollar bill. . . although I am sure the stock flexes enough that it could touch. How much difference does free floating make with a Bull Barrel .22?

There is not a set answer as to whether or not a barrel should be free floated, some actually shoot better with some pressure from the fore end all the way out at the end of the stock. It is free floating when there is zero contact, as stated you can check it with a dollar bill.

Stock flex is why I prefer laminated wood to synthetics, especially in lighter weight stocks, laminates don't flex under user pressure.

im looking to get a ruger 10/22 SYNTHETIC target stock. here are a fews MUSTS
1) synthetic, wood is great but i need synthetic
2) thumb hole
3) needs to fit a .920 bull barrel
4) preferably black in color
im looking at the fajen legacy thumbhole silhouette http://www.sloblu.biz/Fajen-Legacy-Thumbhole-Silhouette-1022/M/B000PWF30K.htm
....any experience with them?
any other good choices for <$150?
thanks a bunch!

I bought that exact stock for my 10/22. Love it! the stock is easy to install, and the adjustment to fit the shooter is very nice. Also i checked mine, and it does free float.

The one mod that i did to mine was use a rasp, a Dremel tool with a drum sander and some sandpaper to make the grip fit my hand better.

Qborchert: can u tell me how long your weapon is exactly (in inches) from barrel to butt pad. im just trying to get a feel for buying a nice case....
also, do u have a bipod on it? was it easy to do or did a gunsmith do it?

Overall length on mine as i have it set is 37". with the buttpad djusted all of the way in is 36".

No bipod or sling swivels on the stock, but probably wouldn't be that hard to do.

And the 10/22's have problems w/ barrel sag if floated. The V-block isn't strong enough to support the barrel hanging out there. ....sometimes to the point of not being able to adjust a scope enough to get the POA on paper.

On rimfirecentral alot of guys put shims under the barrel/reciever contact area. Others post bed it at the end of the stock.

I bedded the action and an inch or so after the receiver and I still found that I had to post bed mine. It was the easiest route for me.
