This khuk is from the 6/02/06 dotd (by Sgt. Khadka). I gave this to my 11 year old daughter Emily as her first khukuri. She has had it sitting in her room looking pretty until today. She got out and did some real chopping today. I will allow her to explain her impressions of her baby khuk...DanR
Emily-
Here is the log that I will chop and the baby khuk stuck in it.
Here is a second shot showing my lab Daisy. She was more interested in chasing the flying chips than helping get the log chopped.
And now I'm starting to chop into the log.
Now it's starting to get deeper into the wood. Every few minutes I would turn the log over and chop another groove until finally meeting in the middle.
About 10-15 minutes later I am nearly through the log.
After much hard work and concentration I finally chopped the log in two. My technique improved as I chopped through the log. In the beginning I wasn't getting much wood removed as I chopped. But later I could notice that more wood was being removed with each chop. I even noticed that good hits sounded better than the bad ones. After I was done I grabbed another log because I had some much fun on the first. I was forced to quit because it started to rain. I then went inside and cleaned and polished my khukuri. I really had fun and I hope everybody here takes their kids in the woods to chop and have fun. I hope you enjoyed this review...Emily
edit: this log is from a pine tree
