Hi All,

Time to bring this knife back to the forum as a topic. 334dave found this knife and started this thread.
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=660265

Now I bring this back to the table because I have also found one. It came with a display that looks like a green velvet picture frame, it has two studs and a raised magnet that holds it in the display. There is also a brass name plate naming this knife as "10 Point Buck, over Bowie Knife" . On the back of this display is a gold sticker saying "The Franklin Mint".

Do any of you folks remember this knife? Any information or comments are welcome.

I like the blade shape, the handle is okay, but that deer head has to go.

LOL...Ed,

The Brass Deerhead looks like an old brass door knocker. To most it looks horrible; but, to me an avid Deer hunter....well it's growing on me. Also I like the Antler part of the handle.

Didn't Joe find a blade or 2 ??/ Is it not the BIGGEST MOST MASSIVE blade Buck ever made ?? [184??] Dave is yours slightly different ? BIG BUCKS ARE GOOOOD!!!!!!!

Would be good ceremonial knife. I can think of several actions that as a ceremony would make me nervous if you came out with that. 300

If Buck does not have one in there factory collection.....THEY NEED THIS KNIFE! It should be juicy trade bait FOR SURE!!! I remember a John Wane LE 110 But nothing else quite so.....well...??????

hi guys could not post, member ship ran out had to reup..
here are the two emails i got from Joe on this blade.....

Dave,
the story I got was that we sent sample blades to Franklin Mint and they put the handle on. We did not do the handle on your deer knife. I hope you don't take it personally when I call the knife Ugly! ;-) It is actually cool in a way.
I found another one of the sample long 124 blades and (will) installed a handle on it. I will be listing the knife once I find a display box big enough.
Take care,

I will go ahead and write a coa for your (not a) 124 Deer knife........
I don't know what would be worth more, a custom long 124 that was submitted to Franklin mint and has a cool deer head handle on it or....a custom made long bladed 124 with mastodon ivory handles. That's a tough question but I am leaning towards the mastodon handled one. Just my 2 cents.

i talked with Joe on the phone and he is was not decided on the handle yet
i have no idea what the tang looked like
hopefully he will post pictures here of it.
i seem to recall he said only 5 blades or 5 to 10 blades
sent to Franklin mint.
from what i gather there is no record of this blade in the books
as he had to find folks that were at buck in cal to ask....

so JB
my intent was to salvage the blade from it.. but them ....
i am like you
the butt ugly thing is growing on me!!
who knows we may have a very rare buck/franklin mint collaboration !

i would like to find another now
amazing you found one also!!!
hay may happs ITE can check and see if he can find one for 13 bucks !?

Thanks for the update info Dave, did Joe give a year of manufacturing for the blades? Oh, Dave the item at the end of the butt looks to be stone of some kind.

Armand I found this one on ebay; but, it did not sell. I was hoping the seller would re list it for a lower price. However, it was never re listed. I contacted the seller; they told me they had listed it for a friend who sells antiques and never re lists any unsold auctions. I asked for more information on the knife. The information I was given from the seller (past to him via the antiques dealer) was that it was a real Buck knife, made in the old custom shop for the Franklin Mint. The knife's owner (antique dealer) was going to take it to a gun show to sell it....so I bought it. Did you see that it has a Stag handle!!! It also has the 124 style blade, with that combo and Dave's nice photo's from his knife, I pulled the trigger.

Joe if you read this can you add more information and photo's of the bare blade?

Ditto what Ed said.

:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Well most of you guys don't like the gold etch blades and don't like the cut out blades (I like them). However, they say "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Now I'm not saying this one is a beauty....but, I do kinda like it:p

up date
joe said today that he can not show us the tang
he has put a handle on the one blade he found
he Might post a picture here of it if we beg hard enught..

he did not say but some how i think there
could be a possibility they might want to keep it
he said EVERY ONE that walks by his desk had to heft it and play with it!
and comment on how it looks.. i bet he gets a lot of
"now that's a buck knife"

I dont have any new news on the knife, other than it sure attracts a lot of attention in my office! Everybody that walks by has to come in and take a look!
I dont have a raw blade anymore, it already has a cherrywood handle on it. I appears to have been laser cut, or possibly wire cut. Thats an expensive way to get samples so I would guess that there were not many more than the 3 we have now found.
I am guessing we did these in the late 1990's but unless I find a file on it, we will never know for sure.
I would like to go on the record as one who likes the hideous looking handle!

I would like to see how Joe's version of this blade looks. Come on Joe....show it to us. I would also like to hear what type of tang is on the blade....rat tail or deer tail? I do know that however nice Joe's custom is.....well.....he did not have a nice deer head to put on his...LOL.
